My wifes parents live in Lyon, we regularly drive out there to visit them but as my wife is currently on maternity leave she has suggested that she drives out on her own to spend 3 weeks there while I ride over to spend the middle week there. Now the autoroute is the obvious route but its boring. I'm planning on taking a couple of days to ride down and I want to make it interesting so does anyone have any suggestions on good roads to detour down? I don't mind going a little out of the way if the road is worth it.
A 2 day journey would need autoroute from Calais to St Quentin, then come off and take the D373 ,using the flowing waypoints. Soissons, chateau Thierry, Anglure, then head for Romilly sur Siene, Marcilly Le Hayer, St Florentine, Auxerre, before Auxerre turn off for Chablis , Nitry, Lormes, Chatea Chinon, Luzy, Digoin, and I leave the rest to you, some cracking roads through National parks etc, enjoy and let us know how you got on. I could give you a good run from Calais to near Paris, but that will add another 4 or 5 hours.
My maps are old,so I have not put road numbers on as they do change, but were talking mostly D roads, the best, good progress and good food along the way, you can sometimes be running parallel to a motorway, but you are on a different planet really.
