I’ve come across some very cool software to try out with my GoPro CAMs, saw it in a Facebook advert. I’m new to the data analysis thing so just wanted to see if anybody had used it before? I like the idea of doing the video overlays, but I’m mostly interested in the data analysis to try and improve my lap times at the track. Also love the idea of measuring the lean-angle! Software is from Race Technology: https://www.race-technology.com/gb/gopro Also where’s the best place to mount your GoPro on your bike?
I've been doing a lot of data analysis for the last season or two and it's been really productive. The information you get from this type of (budget) setup is very effective. You are basically making the choice to keep your bike/car as it is in terms of setup and maximise your laptimes by working on your riding - top speeds on the straights and speeds at the corner apex are your primary source of data and having the video gives you a 'reasonable' idea of your lines and turn in points etc. The other channel besides (GPS derived) speed is the GPS position but the reality is that you can't really use this effectively because the data is not accurate enough at most tracks to see things like brake points and turn in points hence the comments about the video above being more useful. I say 'reasonable' idea of lines and turn in points because the camera lens distorts the view so you have to take a bit of time to understand how it relates to your real life view whilst riding. Think all the internet warriors giving their opinion on accident vids; it's never as it looks in the vid in real life. I'd recommmend avoiding the super wide angle on the GoPro for this reason and use the normal wide angle view as a compromise. The video is not so exciting to watch but the corners are more realistic for analysing your riding.
