Got a claim to fame?

  1. Ever met/seen/"touched" etc. anyone who is........more than just anyone?

When I was a lad I was rummaging about in the local car breaking scrap yard, as you do, looking for some second hand Mini parts when I came across.....er, I'll re-phrase that....when I met, the then leader of the Liberal party, Jeremy Thorpe!

This was the middle of the day by the way, not the dead of night, just in case you were wondering.

Gawd knows what he was there for as I'm sure he wasn't exactly poor at the time. Anyway, I happened to have my camera with me at the time and took a fairly poor photo of him from a few yards away. When I relayed the story at work on the monday no one really believed me until I got the film developed and showed all. Back then he was very famous - imagine seeing Clegg or Miliband doing that now.

I've probably still got that photo somewhere now and if I could be arsed to find it and knew how to scan it into my computer then I'd share it with you .......maybe.

So, what's your claim to fame?

  15. I saved the life of Sir Chris Bonington (climber), when he was a Sir. 1999. Me and my mate were out Scottish winter ice climbing on Lochnagar. Him and his brother were ahead of us on the route. Bonners fell 200' and almost took his brother and us down the rest of the 700' route.......... They were fecking lucky, a combination of soft snow and a single runner stopped them. Their ropes crossed over ours and it would have taken us out too. He broke a couple of ribs and couldn't climb properly. Then the storm hit us. Rather than abseil off (dangerous) I lead through to the top and brought my mate, him and his bro' to the plateau. It was a long three hour walk back to the car. We received a letter of thanks and a free autographed copy of his latest book. Met since a couple of times, top bloke.
