Might be heading back into supersport ownership, all be it a post-2016 version. Saw this in a bike showroom today. Pity, as it was a really nice bike and I was tempted. 1) What are we looking at? is it a covering that is now wearing off? 2) what is the solution? can it be removed? should it be reapplied? Advice please...
Did you bring it to the attention of the sales person, it seems to me to be the lacquer separating from the paint.
thing is, the tank seemed to be unaffected and more matt than the top coat. so I'm not sure if it's the original lacquer shedding or some sort of after-market coating giving up. It's in one of the 'big box' bike supermarket places, they try to push the mantra that the bike is priced to reflect its condition and you take it or leave it. If it is a coating that can be relatively easily removed using some sort of solvent without affecting the paint underneath, it would be OK - if it's actual paint damage i'd rather walk away.
Nothing with paintwork is ever easy, it might be ‘removable’ yet stick like hell here and there which’ll render it a repaint job. If it’s well below budget and there is enough to get it put right by you then there’s your answer. For me I’d walk, if I’m buying from a showroom I don’t want faults paintwork or otherwise.
The grey 'senna' look is appealing and not that common. I need it by end of May for a tour of Scotland. I'm not going on the Hypermotard!
