Purchased this last year to turn into a track bike after the reluctant sale of a 1299. So far have added venhill braided brake lines, Healtech quickshifter, DID chain and sprocket 1 down at front. I was tempted to sell to get something like a K5 instead but looks like I may be keeping for a while so... I wanted to get the suspension set up for me and asking for some advice really from those in the know. Is it more beneficial in the first instance to go to somewhere like MCT and get the suspension set up or to do it with a company at a track day where they tweak throughout the day. Cheers Lyndon
What model is it? I've got a beautiful Penske Shock - think it fits a K9 onwards but would have to check...
Mmmm, might fit It's better quality than an Ohlins unit, that's what the Ohlins tech who serviced it said anyhoo... If your interested I'll check fitment and get some pictures at the weekend.
I'm getting my forks service by 100% suspension as they also do track days. That way I'll get the guy who rebuilt them dialing them in. Remember Rockingham in October? vertical cylinder on my 999 went belly up. Whoops.
Will check tomorrow for you - this was purchased freshly serviced with little previous use about 3 years ago for my build - documented on here, and due to the attached reservoir it won't fit my somewhat strange application now I have my frame built...
I've got a K5 and recently had a K-Tec piston kit fitted and a setup done by a guy local to me, he does some trackdays too but mainly down south (Brands generally) Paul Adams is his name (RaceLab). The kit is great and the front is now awesome..your bike is a lot newer than mine so might be worth getting it setup first and see how you go? I also upgraded calipers, pads, lines and discs as the brakes were a bit rubbish but I'm thinking you have brembos already? I've never had suspension done on the fly as much prefer to go and see Paul and spend an hour or so setting it up properly without losing track time
I've got nitron r3 shock and ohlins piston kit and stiffer springs in my k2, other than my 748r it's the best handling bike I've had. Mh racing did my forks.
Ok cool cheers Yeah I running the Brembos and SC pads, and some decent fluid seems to be working well but may upgrade the master cylinder at somepoint just keen to set up and suspension and eliminate another excuse for slow lap times haha
Was looking at those and the maxton / ohlins etc just difficult to know where to start. I’m based in Cambridge so may look at some places near me, cheers
Think a lot of company's now build suspension over the phone just tell um what the bikes used for and your weight they send you the kit and away you go.
Without meaning to hijack the thread, (apologies @Lyndon ) what noticeable difference does changing the rear shock do? Sorting my front forks has helped loads and have more feeling in the front.. I've been looking at rear shocks and don't know if I need or would benefit from a new one??
They work well with increased front and rear ride height. And the wheel needs to be quite far back, with ideally the race pivot as it acts more like a linear (think thats the affect - it flattens it) to give better side grip and stability.
It is more adjustable, so a small change can make a big difference. Also means it can become almost unreadable really easily! Also high/low speed comp is a bog help over older shocks on the road and modern bumpy tracks!!
Scored a piston. All repaired. Now going to retire as a track tool and be used on road and maybe the odd Ducati track day. Will fix her up nice. Hopefully buying a dedicated track bike Sunday.
I thought doing the rear suspension was more important than the front to stop the bike squatting and bouncing around?
