Anyone have or owned the Suzuki gt750 kettle? looking for any advice on buying/ owning one, Don't know why but I'm needing to get myself a large capacity 2stroke ;-) never had one but luv the look of these
Just been discussing the exact same thing in a mates garage, he was fettling his recent purchase, a modified 350LC and his brother was there fettling his Kaw Triple H2. For me it would have to be a H1 Triple I think.
Suzuki have recently started to remanufacture spares for their "classics" which is a good thing. Poor cooling often resulted in the middle cylinder seazing and if you think Ducati fixings are crap, wait till you see a kettle. Current prices are mentally high and they are scarce in restorable condition or better. I blanched at £7k 2 years ago for an "unrestored" example and I kicked myself for weeks. Just one thing, it's a bike from the early 70s with all the problems of a bike from the early 70s and it's heavy, 220kg dry. Andy
yeh ive been looking and prices are fairly high, small niggles/ weight and handling doesn't really bother me, that's not really why I want one, just want it for a little fun, runs and something to tinker with, the 999 will be there for all the above ;-) nearly all the ones ive seen for sale are either Canadian or American imports, is this a problem or should they be avoided?
I used to use one that belonged to a mate back in 1977, it was brand new. As a young 18 year old I would thrash his bike and he would do the same to my brand new BMW R75/7. After two days of thrashing I could manage to stretch his chain so much that it would jump around the knackered sprocket. The shaft on my BMW was fine though. I suppose that a kettle with a modern chain and sprockets would be a little less fragile! I would love one.
Not sure how different the spec would have been for North America back in the 70s. My guess would be caburation and power restriction, nothing that couldn't be undone especially as you can get new spares now. Andy
Had a 750 B from new and all the observations re weight and handling are correct, went into scary tank slap pers with little provocation .My middle cylinder seized en route to Silverstone for the classic Sheene v Roberts gp had to hitch back after putting bike on train. However they look lovely, front brakes superb and are rising in value(the earlier they are the more they cost)Have just finished restoring a z900 and was considering the kettle as next one? The Kettle Clinic forum is a really good resource and looking at what you want to do with it seems like an interesting option, good luck
I had a couple back in the day.One standard, the other tarted a bit.All black with the odd chrome bit and three chrome v loud spannies.Perhaps it did nt handle and was abit fat but jeez it sounded luvverly.:tearsofjoy:
