Guadalest Motorcycle Museum

  1. So the murder in law lives on the Costa Blanca and I'm obliged to do the annual visit for a week.

Anyway this time I managed to squeeze in a very short trip to the Guadalest M/C museum. Privately owned and although I've seen more exotic collections, every bike in there is a runner and is in pretty much A1 nick. Private collection and I was stunned with the condition of these machines. Apparently the owner is often seen locally riding various exhibits around the area. The road there is just a series of curves absolutely brilliant but the amount of traffic tourist buses etc: makes it a serious hazard IMHO. Would be a great road at dusk or dawn when the traffic going up or down to Guadalest wasn't on it.

Apologies for the quality I had not taken my "decent" camera (which I'm upgrading coz even it's ancient) but was using a little Sony Handycam well out of date and way better with video than stills as I'd never thought I'd get to visit the place. Even then only had 30 minutes.........Bummer but the best 1/2 hour of the holiday

  2. nice one. i had a couple of the old bultos, persang and sherpa.

  3. We went to the museum in 2012 and were impressed. The bikes were a bit crammed in as I guess the owner got carried away buying cool stuff (not jealous!!!). It's nice to go to foreign motorcycle museums as they don't have a hang up on big bikes like we do in the UK. Here's a few more photos of the Ducatis in case anyone is interested. If you want more photos then let me know - there was quite a bit of interesting stuff there (road racing Bultacos, Honda TT tiled wall, 197cc Villiers engine Jeep - again Villiers engines were made under licence in Spain). Just don't make too much fuss as we don't want it too busy if we go back!

Last year we went to an autojumble in Murcia. Again the focus was on smaller bikes, which were often Ducatis (were they made under licence in Spain like Moto Guzzis?). Unfortunately my memory card screwed up so I lost all my photo....was very grumpy, so just as well beer was 52cents a tin.....

Its some bit of road Stang is it not? But the bloody buses frighten the shite outta me if you came around a curve at any speed at all you'd end up a hood ornament

  5. Yes John, it is an impressive piece of tarmac, but once you're in that area most of the roads seem impressive. The quality of road considering the low volume of traffic is unbelievable! We've been to Guadalest twice (didn't know about the bike museum the first time....poor planning) and the first time we can along the mountain route from Relleu, where we were staying. A stunning route and a good job it was far too hot for bike gear or I'd have really been missing the bike, as it was we kept stopping for beer so the bike wasn't missed at all!! I keep threatening to ride down there one spring or autumn but it's finding the time......one day...fingers crossed....

Here's some more photos for the poor souls who have never been there, including the Villiers engined Jeep, and the greeny-gold and blue bike is a Dick-Dick (yes I know it's juvenile to giggle but the thought of offering young ladies a ride on your Dick-Dick..........).

This thread is seriously making me want to go back for another look....... Did you do the boat ride around the reservoir John?

  6. Hi Stang

Yes like you that was my second visit & I only found out about the museum on the first trip

This time I got an organized trip outta Benidorm to Guadalest and did the boat trip too.

2 hours in Guadalest and 30 minutes at the museum 15 Euro minus entrance fees, not bad.

We'll go back next year maybe Benidorm or possibly Altea with the Light Railway/Tram your pretty much sorted with either to go and explore a bit. Benidorm is to do with a hotel the Mother in Law likes; a walk down the front sure is an eye opener in more ways than one.

I found Guadalest and Altea stunningly beautiful and I got some video of the boat trip I'll pop it up on Youtube when edited a bit and post in General discussion
