Fellow members, Forgive me for posting this thread, not finding the Guzzi forum very helpful and i cant post a thread as im not a PAID up member. I am in need of yr help as i am at my wits end re my Guzzi fuel pump, Its def not working as there is no sign of life when i put on the ignition, and i have connected it directly to the battery, so its dead. Problem is the price of a Bosch replacement, its eye watering. The current one, sits in a rubber housing and is mounted to the frame, but i cant find a cheap alternative for love or money. The current one is made by Pierburg and has the no's 7.21287.03 stamped on it, but i cant seem to find it anymore or an alternative. Any idea's how to replace it relatively cheaply as im selling the bike. 2001 V11 Sport. Al advice greatly appreciated.
off the top of head I think an old model Mazda MX5 pump is fairly cheap (around £35-40) and possibly adaptable for your Guzzi. A lot of the earlier SS/851 owners have gone this route. EDIT http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Intan...Car+Make:Mazda|Model:MX-5&hash=item4177db6211
Chris, Thanks for that mate, i actually ordered a Mazda MX5 for my 851, but the dimensions are totally different and it doesnt fit in the rubber cradle in a 851 tank, so now i have to find an whole new system of mounting it inside the tank, any advice on this issue would also be most appreciated. I did actually buy a BMW E30 pump for the guzzi but it was way too big and didnt fit in the rubber glove that attaches to frame, but i will look into the Mazda option.
Here's the spec for the pump Fuel Pump 52mm Diameter - Moto Guzzi / 29107261 A search on ebay for 3 bar fuel pump brought up some similar looking ones for under £40
Closest I can find is summat like this - maybe worth a punt - no dimensions but sort of looks right, sort of ... Universal 12V Fuel Pump 130 LPH 3 Bar Like Bosch 070 -FP2 | eBay You could try taking the original to a couple of motor factors to try and match one up, if you haven't already - sometimes you can strike lucky - good luck
Greyman's post looks like a cracker. I had to purchase Pierpurg for an 1100 sport and it was about triple that. The capacity is a little high but the pressure is right Here is a link to Guzzitech where a similar question was asked (a great site for all things Guzzi) GuzziTech.com Forum • View topic - V11 Sport - Pierburg out-of-tank fuel pump Here is a link to the Pierpurg product info, from the actual model stated on the thread you can get all the details re spec. http://art.rexbo.net/pierburg/pdf/pg-pi-0034a-en-web.pdf From Greyman's link I'd go for that but ask about current consumption and if there is any overpressure protection. On the face of it it certainly looks good John
Greyman/Jock Thank you both and everyone else that has responded to my question re the pump. i had actually seen this pump on ebay and did buy a similar item from a fuel pump supplier, but the problem is with dimensions, the current pump is quite small and sits in a rubber housing and is attached to the underside of the spine of the frame under the fuel tank (NOT submersible), my question is, if i attach the ebay universal pump directly to the frame without the rubber housing will it affect the performance or make it 'short' out being in direct contact with metal? Or should it work ok. Thanks in advance
SP4S That pump does not look a million miles away from the original fitment on the Daytonas and Sportis anyway. On these the pump hung underneath the front subframe of the spine right at the front of the bike. If it's too big then I guess you have 3 alternatives 1) Make a new bigger bracket to suit the new pump 2) Relocate the pump. Will involve some more fiddling and more fuel hose 3) Give up on that and get summit like the Pierburg (expensive) I would make sure the pump has adequate cooling air around it and some form of vibration protection, electrically you have no worries the original rubber sleeve is for vibration protection only. Here is how I am mounting mine when the time comes, an e-bay bracket at about £35 and then cut to suit. If I can help any more just come back John
If you are doing it cheaply then go onto the bay of sleaze and search for fuel pump mount you can get single and double point mounts for less than £15. So I'd contact Greyman's link and ask dimensions then check e-bay for the additional mount. Even having to buy both it's still a relatively a cheap fix John
