Those three rascals do like to stir things up don't they. Clearly the number plate was an unfortunate chance thing.....were the Argentinian's being over sensitive bad sports? The BBC confirmed the show's decision to leave, but denied the offending car was chosen for its number plate. Andy Wilman, executive producer of Top Gear, said on Thursday: "Top Gear production purchased three cars for a forthcoming programme; to suggest that this car was either chosen for its number plate, or that an alternative number plate was substituted for the original is completely untrue." The team departed three days early after being denied permission to film by local authorities. It was reported their cars had been abandoned by the roadside and the crew were escorted to the airport, after being pelted with stones.
Apparently the Top Gear team offered to change the plates; which only had the effect of really winding up the Gaucho mob. When asked how they intended to change them they replied "We've got an Extraset".
I've just heard that the registration number wasn't the only problem.... When asked what colour car James May was driving he replied "Goose Green!"
If he did it on purpose, then good ! Someone needs to reminds the Argentinians that the Falklands have never belonged to them , and never will...
What a sad case Argentina is! In the early 20th century, Argentina worked its way up to being one of the top 10 wealthiest countries in the world, in GDP per head. But after 65 years of economic mismanagement and successive useless governments, now it's not even in the top 60. Fluctuations, high inflation, weak currency, defaulted debts, low investment, high unemployment. Textbook example of how not to do it. No wonder Argentina can't afford to buy ships for the navy, planes for the airforce, or tanks for the army - which is just as well perhaps.
