1260 Had My Key Pinched

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Wellsy, Jul 24, 2019.

  1. Sadly we were burgled the other night by some lowlife t*at! And it looks like my wireless key has gone missing. I still have my red key and I can obviously use the PIN to get started, but does anyone have an idea of replacement and programming cost for a new key.

The bikes in for a service on Friday so I can get it ordered ASAP and fingers crossed the previously mentioned t*at doesn’t come back to have a crack at the bike.

    Thanks for any advice

  3. I may be wrong but i think the ECU needs to be changed in order to change the keys. The red key holds the code for your current bike key and can be used to get anew key programmed but that wont help you in the current situation.

It wont be cheap but may be covered by your home insurance if stolen during a burglary

  4. If I were you I’d be looking at keeping it somewhere else for a while....and get a tracker quick.

  5. If you have the red key, then a new active key is easily coded at your dealer and the old key deleted. Just keep the bike safe until it’s done. A new key is about £100 though and will need cutting.

  6. Cheers Nelly, thanks for the info.

The bikes off to the dealer tomorrow so should be safe and sorted soon. Just needed to know what extra budget I’ve got to stump up on top of the service.

I can live with £100 and maybe consider myself lucky that it wasn’t nicked in the first place.

Fortunately my dog went nuts when he heard someone in the house and they did a runner before I got my hands on em

  9. Does the wireless key contain your mechanical key? (Like an Audi flip key)

If so, won’t you also need a full set of locks as well as disabling the old key?

  10. The active key does have a blade, but the OP has the red key and that can be copied.

  11. So the thief has the blade to unlock the bike mechanical even if they can’t start it, is my point. Personally I’d want the locks changed in that scenario. I wonder if house insurance covers that

  12. The blade on the key only unlocks the tank filler, seat and luggage, not much risk there really, not enough to change all the locks IMHO

  13. As above. The balde only does the mechanical bits. Once a new active key is coded, the old code is deleted. Other than opening the filler or pannier, the bike will be safe. The steering lock couldn't be undone for instance.

  14. Very sorry to read.
I recently had a key made. You don't need another key to make a copy. The new key is cut using the VIN.

  15. If check your home insurer see if they will pay for a new lock set and software

  16. if the insurer agrees to pay, the deductible may question whether it's worth it or not.
In my case, I have a $1000 deductible. Consequently, any claim around that dollar amount is not worth claiming.

  17. Sorry to hear this - the red key will unlock the bike & fire up the dash without having to enter the pin if you hold it here for several seconds:

I had to shop around several key cutting shops before finding one who would cut a Ducati key.

  18. Sorry - I meant to add you press the grey unlock button below the start button at the same time!
