I plan on using my Monster during the winter and I've already got heated grips fitted, but I'm trying to avoid going down the route of hand muffs, so I'm looking into getting hand guards fitted. Any suggestions are always welcomed
I make 'em for bikes fitted with the coffin master cylinder units. Much better design and construction than anything else on the market, imho. Will become available next week. See my post on your intro thread on the UKMOC forum.
Try 2 x 2litre milk cartons cut down and ty wraped to the bars, and get yer mam to knit you a big jumper!
The better halfs M750, has Oxford Sports heated grips, and some Acerbis hand guards which mount on the bar ends. The combo is that good she can wear thin sports gloves all year.
I've taken pics, will upload them tonight. They're BMW R1200GS ones. The one piece type as I've seen 2 versions of GS ones where they are in top and bottom halves. Fit to the standard Monster bars, you will need to cut away a little to clear cables etc but one of the best mods for winter these are. They made as big a difference as fitting decent heated grips did for me but now I don't get the windchill on the back of my hands anymore.
I definitely agree that handguards are as effective, if not more so, than heated grips. And the two together is more than twice as good as either on their own. Without wanting to blow my own trumpet too loudly, my design is much better than those BMW ones, imho. They fit directly to the master cylinder units, and have no fittings to the bars whatsoever, so they're neat looking and easy to fit. They also put more protection where you need it most, while also being narrower due to the lack of a fitting at the bar ends. And they're quickly detachable in about 5 mins. I'll post some pics when I've learnt how to do it.
As I mentioned on 'the other forum', i'd be very interested if the price is right. I dont expect to pay £20 and I'm happy to pay for a good quality item. Keep us updated
Lol, I did pay 20 quid for mine! They were attached to a pair of blue Renthal bars which the owner fitted to his versys(I think) but removed them before selling his bike. Bought thru ebay, and collected 20miles away from me. I think every Monster should have them. No wind buffering either btw, at least up to what my 600 can muster!
Utopia, upload to photobucket then copy the image code link and paste it here. I've been using the photobucket app on my phone and its straight forward.
Thanks, Matt.....but I nicked that idea from the hypermotard. The real design breakthrough was the third fitting, which is simply a cable tie around the master cyl spigot which engages with a stainless steel hook embedded in the handguard moulding, leaving no need for a bar-end fitting. This makes them neat, narrow, very secure and quickly detachable in just a couple of minutes, and of course it means you can still fit bar-end mirrors, as in the pics. That bit of design is all mine. There is a more detailed description on the UKMOC forum. Ultimate Monster Handguards ?? - UK Monster Owners Club Forum
Yep got them a few weeks back and got them fitted. Needed to make a little mod to the guard for the brake lever as it looks like the reservoir is larger than that on Utopias bike. My levers are a little low at the moment, so need to tweak then to bring the guards higher. Really nicely made.
