Hey there. As some, if not most of you are aware, im back on the scrounge for parts after my off at Silverstone earlier this month. Im having problems locating a left clip on for the 1098 (ive even put something in the wanted section - like a good forum member ) I have a question about the tube diameter for the handlebars. Cant seem to find a great deal of trustworthy info on the web. Are the handlebar widths universal. i.e would a handlebar tube for an 1199/899 fit the Ohlins sized clamp for my 1098s? Or are the right and left tubes identical in terms of markings and fitment points for the switchgears? - saying that, that last question is probably a no the more I think about it.
Both the 1098 and 1098S are listed with 43mm forks, so one would assume the fork legs would be the same size too (53mm I think, but it would pay to check).
22mm. universal. Get some quality thick walled alloy tube, maybe from ebay. Dont worry about the locating pins, they're not really necessary.
22mm as said above. The holes for the locating pins are easy enough to drill, wrap some insulating tape around the bar, fit the controls loosely and adjust to the correct position. Tighten the screws then loosen them off and remove the controls. The pin will leave an indentation in the exact place you need to drill the bar. The only issue with using generic bars is one of the bolts in the clamp runs through a groove on the bar, grinding this out can be a bit of a pain.
