I was out on the SS a couple of days ago, and found myself wanting a slightly larger diameter pair of grips, you know the feeling when your hand goes almost too far around the grip, and it feels like you are holding the bike with a pair of pencils? OK, maybe its just me... I have had the original grips on the bike till now (not doing bad, they are 21 years old!) then I changed for the one which comes with the FCR41 throttle assembly, so at the moment, I have odd grips, but thought that the feel might be improved with a slightly larger diameter grip in my hand. So, has anyone had any success with aftermarket grips, if so, what have you got? I have a pair of the 'Superbike' logoed grips knocking around, but everyone seems to have those... And I want black (or maybe grey?) some folks fit red... Ugh! PS, not bothered about heated ones!
Try Googling "Grip Puppies" I think? cheap alternative and easily removed if they don't suit.
Grip Puppies are quite interesting, I had never heard of them before, just not sure how legal they might be. A couple of years ago, an MOT tester (not the one I habitually use) got all uptight about being able to rotate the grip on the clutch side of the bike, and insisted that I had to have it secured before he could issue a ticket. Pro Grips look good though, might try a pair.
is it the grips or the bars? the standard bars I found had too extreme bend on them I fitted adjustable bars which improved comfort about 200%, have since fitted rizoma grips more for bling factor than comfort
Its the grips, not the bars. Mine is a carb ss, I see yours is an ssie. I never really thought that I have large hands, but always seem to buy gloves in large sizes. When out riding the bike, it feels like my fingers are curled too far around the grip, and maybe that feeling contributes to a slight numb fingers situation. I think Im relaxing enough when riding not to cause the numbness, but it might be interesting to try some changes, and see if it helps. Bought some ProGrips off ebay recently, so we will see how that goes.
I know you said you're not bothered about heated grips, but the Oxford hothands are effectively mini electric blankets that wrap over the existing grips, so do make them fatter. I'm amazed I've got on with them so well on my 696 because I have tiny hands. When I took them off recently the bike's own grips just felt naked and too small, as I've got so used to the hothands, so was very glad to put them back on again.
