1260 Handlebar Options

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by freshage, Mar 21, 2024.

  1. I found a post from @mike willis stating the following bars can fit: https://www.performanceparts-ltd.co...uminium-taper-handlebar-x-bar-black/128ax01sw

Question, has anyone recently done this swap and if so, were you happy going with shorter bars? I'm only looking at this 'mod' as my shoulders both now have degenerative issues which the wide bars were certainly not helping with and in fact, likely caused some of the longer term damage over the extensive tours I do.

The only current mods I have on the bars are the slightly higher carbon fibre hand guards and after market mirrors as the OEM's were not bar adjustment friendly and lastly a riser kit.

Plus, the bike is a pig to throw around on switchbacks with such large bars.

  2. Those look great, interested to hear if these do indeed fit.

  3. I'd have thought shorter bars would be even harder work, with less leverage requiring more input :thinkingface:can't say I've ever experienced an issue riding hairpins on the Multi though, appreciate I don't have shoulder issues, just wrists in my case :(

  4. More on the speedier twisties, most of my tours are mountain roads in Northern Spain or similar. Over time I've found the width of the bars being a hindrance more than helping. Hard to explain, but I think shortening the bars will help.

I've just ordered them and will report back once I've done a tour with them

  5. I shortened my bars by 15mm each side and added risers 22mm to try and solve shoulder pain which i never get on my other bike. better feel all round and no more pain:upyeah:

  6. I did this mod a while back: Narrower Lsl Bars Fitted - Diy Write-up

I’ve subsequently put a custom +10mm riser set on there to give a little more clearance to the tank.

Still delighted with the difference it made. Have toured on the bike since and it was both supremely comfortable and planted when pushing on. Filtering is a total dream now too (as much as it can be for a bike of this type at least :p).

Well worth the little bit of effort it takes to accurately port all the required holes for the controls etc :)

  7. Can you let us know where the post is , I have the same shoulder issue with the bars.
I definitely want to change mine

    Thanks I found it

  8. I originally bought the lsl bars but messed up a bit with hole locations and didn't feel happy with the conversion. Was easier to cut down the OEM bars (can't remember if it was 10 or 15 mm on each side) but then got 30mm risers. Found it a bit too high so got them cut down to 22mm and wow absolutely perfect and now no more pain .. love it

  9. I have the risers , the seat just constantly pushes you forward.
Hopefully I won’t feck up the bars I’ve ordered o_O

  10. Try and get hold of the Touratech version of the comfort seat, it's a huge improvement.

  11. Tried it , didn’t work for me

  12. I put Monster bars on my 1200S Multi = lower and narrower.

Having read your posts it’s made me realise that it’s stopped the ache I get between my shoulder blades.

I need to put a couple of washers underneath the clamp so that it gives better clearance of the tank. Also I need to roll the bars forward but that might give me a problem with the fairing.

It’s work in progress but it does make me sit more leaning forward, which is what I wanted and the front is less twitchy, although the under-mounted steering damper has a lot to do with that.

  13. I fitted the LSL 'Superbike medium X-bars' (128AX01AN) to my 1260S and it's the best mod I've done... it's a bit of a faff/trial and error getting them to clear both the tank cover and front screen, but well worth it. I did have two goes at it, the first time worked but where I drilled one of the alignment holes meant the clutch lever occasionally snagged the headlamp flasher which became a bit embarassing...
Improved the bikes handling, comfort, width and IMHO they look better in the anthracite colour.

  14. I solved the seat issue with both my 1200DVT and now my 1260.
Cut the rear lugs down on the plastic seat raising side strips, whilst leaving the front ones alone. Refit with the front raising bracket and the front is now a little higher.
Inexpensive and easy to do. If you don't like it replacement side raising strips are inexpensive to replace.

  15. I also fited the LSL bars. A tad on the neat side wrt fitting but it's a big improvement from the very cumbersome stock bars.

@fatbob99 A Sargent seat solved the sliding forward problem for me. Rather firm but well shaped and good support and a trough to avoid hammering the coxxyx!

  16. I've just done the complete opposite of you guys and bought some 6" high Renthal MX bars, they're about 60mm wider per side ( I hope the looms reach?) and taper back a lot more, I find the stock bars cumbersome, especially on serious counter steering, I already have two sets of risers, one straight and one at 45 degrees. I'll let you know how I get on x

  17. I'm in the same camp. I prefer lower bars coming off a Panigale and a Monster. In the absence of risers, the Multi offers limited clearance for various bar choices.

  18. Any pics please
