Howdo! Just wondering what people have done to there bikes to get them handling and stopping?? And how do they compare to a more modern bike? Does anyone have that perfect set-up???? I'm kinda comparing my Superlight to my GSXR (Which I know are to totally different bikes, however........) Using the GSXR to get to work on and ride everyday GSXR Pirelli rosso II tyres (Excellent) Suspension set-up by Steve at Peak Performance. SBS RS pads. Overall a very neutral handling bike that inspires confidence - good piece of kit . Superlight light weight wheels with 2CTs (which have seen better days) 1098 forks (Revalved) Ohlins rear (Extended body - will measure length - Fnarr ) Set up by Steve again Speedy moto clip ons. Radial master cylinder Braided lines SBS RS pads Went out on the Superlight and it was like I've never ridden the bike before (Owned for 15years) totally alien. So am I mind F%$ked??? Or is it because I have a new goalpost to measure the Superlight?? Superlight turns in way quicker, has way better brakes but doesn't feel as plush and not quite how it could be IMO. Maybe a new set of boots for the old girl is what's needed??? Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmh
What I can't figure out is why did the 900 ess-esses have a 70 profile front tyre and the 750 and 600 had a 60 profile......?? The 60 turns in much quicker than the 70 but you run the risk of rolling over onto the sidewall...they tend to drop in badly and suddenly in slow-ish speed roundabouts.... ...and the DD-ers tend to switch to a 70 profile apparently...... .....I now have a 70 on the front, and it tends to slightly oversteer, but it's so easy to quickly push it down a bit more to correct the oversteer without running the risk of losing it.... I find it bizarre that what are fundamentally the same bikes, they have different front tyres which so dramatically alter the handling. AL
My current front on the 900 is a 60 profile, and to be honest I'm no Rossi in the corners but I've riden the front right the way round to such an extent that the edges are down past the wear bars and the center is still OK all on a BT020. Just ordered a 70 profile BT021 for the frontso we'll see how big a difference it makes. As for the brkes I've Goodridge braided stainless lines with the original coffin style master cylinder, with the original pads and cast iron full floater discs. Haul on the brakes and the SS will stand on its nose with little difficulty.
