1200 Hands Free Ignition Fault

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by **Topher**, Apr 29, 2017.

  1. Has anybody experienced a fault with the hands free system where it won't swithch on the ignition unless the key is placed directly on top of the instrument pannel.
I have changed the battery last September as it would not switch on one morning when I was on a tour and it cured the problem.
I have changed the battery again but wont switch on when the key is moved away from the pannel.
Is the ariel for the key system in the instrument pannel?

I had the pannel replaced at 15K mls as it had the standard water ingress fault.
Since then the stearing lock operation has been intermitent. Dealer advises that this is a software update and was wondering if the hands free neeed a similar update?

  2. yes, only once has it dropped the signal. See manual about re-connecting the transponder thingie.

  3. The antenna is in the beak. I have an intermittent problem when fueling, which is somewhat common here in the US and believed to be RF interference from the petrol pumps.

  4. I have been through the manual but cant find anything about reconecting the transponder.
I have got it to work but you have to put the key directly on top of the instrument pannel.
Operates ok so guess its a signal strength issue as the arial is just below.
Going to try another new battery ... Duracell this time as i have read that some of the Energizer ones are shyt! Long shot but worth a try.
    Thanks for feed back guys

  5. It's not the battery buddy, we've done back to back testing on batteries and the Energizer ultra plus are better than the Duracell equivalent

  6. Your not wrong.. just swaped it over to Duracell and no difference.
Anyone know if the antena is connected by a plug or directly connected inside the instrument panel. Wondering if there is a bad connection attenuating the signal.
Think I'm going to need a trip to see the guys at Lincoln.

  7. FYI the antenna is part number 51840091A "Coil antenna, immobilizer". It is mounted behind the instrument panel, and has its own lead and plug into the wiring harness.

  8. Hi Pete,
Thanks for feed back. Looks like im not alone with this fault. Have you more experience of same or similar issues?

  9. Well no, I myself have never had any hand-free or antenna issues on any of my Multistradas. So far.

  10. My Bike is in the dealer having the brembo recall carried out, I had a call saying that they were having issues getting the steering lock off and starting it. They diagnosed the hands free unit was the issue and it is being replaced as a goodwill gesture by Ducati but I have to pay for the labour.

  11. My hands free unit has trouble working in the cold , if the temp. goes down to about 10 degrees C or lower it doesn't work , above that temp it always works , weird .
