Happy Wife… Happy Life !

  1. So Mrs Slingy claimed my 748 as hers after I drunk bought the 996s last year and has been enjoying it until recently. Then she laid eyes on a friends 848 at a meet… oh the joys : unamused::grinning:

The hunt began for a later 848Evo and had done a deal with a less than favourable chap (aka thunder cunt) who sold the bike less than 3 hours after triple confirming I was coming for the bike and had van/insurance and everything sorted already. Mrs Slingy was understandably upset when said shiny red bike didn’t appear !

Quick trawl over eBay and the likes but most had keys missing, or questionable MOT history or no MOT for several years etc. Then I stumbled on Roadtrips thread selling his stunning 848, it was a bit more than I was hoping to spend but I could tell from the advert alone this was more my kinda bike.

A few PM’s back and forth asking all sorts of annoying things and a deal was agreed :D. Unlike the other twat, Mr Roadtrip was a sound gent and held up the agreement of not selling the bike out from under me which is something I’d gotten used to of late. Met Mr Roadtrip last night and the bike was an absolute peach, all documents/books/wallets etc present and bike maintained to the highest order… a true credit to his ownership.

Bike was loaded into the van and headed back home. There was a tiny 848 sized hole in the garage waiting for the new arrival. Bit of a squeeze but that was the 7th bike wedged in a single garage :no_mouth:. This morning I started fettling and lowered the bike as much as possible for Mrs shorty arse… I know, sacrilege lowering a Ducati but it doesn’t stop her hauling ass on them so why not.

The standard seat had been packed away in boxes for a while had incurred a few impressions in the leather. Today I left a damp cloth on the seat for an hour, then heated up the vinyl with her majesty’s hair dryer. It did the trick and impressions have pretty much disappeared :upyeah:

Sorted insurance this afternoon so she’s all good to go, didn’t think £420 all mods declared was too bad as Mrs Slingy’s only had her licence 10 months now. She’s a bloody good rider though and doesn’t hang about, I guess years of playing with 500hp+ cars gave her the advantage.

Anyways big thanks to Roadtrip for being a great gent to deal with, and for the fantastic bike. I’ve added some pics but didn’t bother putting them in the right place as the forum always jumbles them up lol.

It fitted… just ! Her 748 has been relegated to my yard so 848 now sits on a dolly where the sideways bike in the middle is

  2. Great stuff. I've bought two bikes from forum members on here and both times it's been painless and a pleasure. Good to keep the 848 in the family, so to speak.

  7. 748 or 996?

  8. it’s a 748 currently wearing my 996’s bodywork. The 748 was originally all carbon fibre panels including tank. I swapped that over to my 996 and stuck my 996 panels on her 748

  15. Awww that bike is luverly Slingy, very envious.....was toying between an 848 Evo and a Scrambler 1100 a few months ago...much as I love the looks of the Scrambler (Trib Pro), I still kinda wish I'd gone with a nice 848.

I know what it's like with having the carpet pulled from under you with a sale; I shook hands on purchasing a 996 GT3 mk1 many years ago, stunning black LHD example...the w4nker sold it the next day after I'd travelled many miles to see it in person, arranged a PPI, all the finances, insurance etc. Was. Not. Chuffed. (and let him know in no uncertain terms what an ocean-going bellend he was)

  17. My ‘happy wife’ wasn’t today when she found out I bought new golf clubs. Imagine when she finds out what they cost…. I earned it, wtf can’t I spend it?’

  18. Well bike is suitably lowered , and all 5ft nothing means she can just touch the ground ok. Not quite flat footed but enough to not worry too much. It’s about the same height I got her 748 too so no worries . First shakedown ride in her higher boots before donning her leathers and Alpinestars boots

Also stumbled across a bargain on eBay last night, a genuine Ducati stand that’s brand new still with the price tag on for a princely sum of £69 :D Even had to pick it up from the Ducati dealer 80 miles away ! Couple of small marks on the back where it looks like it’s lifted a bike once or twice in the showroom or something but effectively spanking new

As for the bike, it’s every bit as good as I expected. Couple of niggles I need to sort, despite having a rebuild, both forks get damp after a ride. Battery shows decent voltage but starts very slowly. Might just need uprated cables too, but given low mileage each year, I’m guessing battery isn’t fantastic either.

    Apart from that… tickety boo :cool::cool: View attachment 277668 24D992A5-2D96-4B27-8B0E-169629C3A827.jpeg ED2A09C8-DF64-4C2E-9C1D-B1908D31B408.jpeg C61CE5DB-A46E-4E3E-9951-338D52AB7BB7.jpeg 9EAFA111-757F-446D-807A-0BC59F7E6AB5.jpeg

  19. Get better cables. They struggle sometimes starting when hot and ime seems to solve that (mostly) too.
