After scouring various bike forums across the interweb it seems that those who actualy run them are happy. Not found any doom and gloom stories yet IMO dics are well over priced for what they actually are. Lets face it discs are hardly made from unobtainable materials and from what I can tell the specs of the steel and alloys are to the same spec as your Brembo's Galfers etc etc. (Stainless steel 420 (2Cr13) and Aluminum alloy 6061) Tempted give set of these a whirl 2 X Front Round Brake Disc Rotor For DUCATI 999 BIPOSTO 02 06 S 998CC 02 07 R 999CC 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 GOLD-in Brake Disks from Automobiles & Motorcycles on Aliexpress.com
Mr R As it goes currently on my bike I have the follwoing items from the East Rear disc Billet rear sets Levers All have been on the bike at least 2 years and have performed perfectly.
I used to work for the UK importer of Brembo. Believe me-Brembos warp, crack and generally fall to bits too. And the amount of pad material that would part with the metal bit was alarming.
Someone on here had a serious fubared 1098 disc, cant for the life of me rememeber who it was. It seems more socially acceptable to go to Euro car parts and pay £40 for 2 no doubt made in china car discs, stick them on a ton on a half of car and drive at 70/80 with our families in them! Back to the question. Has anyone actually died or had a major failure? Bolloxed if I can find a case
Same as the Chazzo's thing; I only found one first hand report of someone crashing through using cheap levers, and it turned out he was trying to fit the wrong ones, causing the brakes to drag. I've used chinese levers, footrests, carbon bits, etc and they've all performed more than acceptably well. My brother came out for a pint today, and he's fitted a set of chinese fairings to his 1098s. The quality is excellent and he said they fitted without hassle. Yet people still try to give you scare stories. My mate's got chinese brake discs on his Speed Triple; I'll ask him how they're holding up, but I assume the fact he hasn't mentioned them since fitting them means he's had no problems. Fancy that...
I think we should stop using the word cheap. Perhaps our Chinese friends are selling at the what we should call the fair price, its only been on the last 5 years or so that the man in the street has had the same access to Chinese manufacturing and its prices that the big companies and thier profit margins have enjoyed for years.
I should imagine a high proportion of branded goods you buy at 'label' prices is made in China as well. Fact of the matter is China has all the raw materials, all the labour, all the equipment and the knowhow. Why the hell shouldn't we buy Chinese? They are more than capable of producing quality goods, but haven't needed to until recently, having a massive home market to sell to. Now they're exporting goods around the world in large numbers the quality is improving all the time.
I had a chinkys the other night. I nearly died when i didn't get my free prawn crackers. does that count ?
Depends on quality control, Iphones are made in China and how many do they sell. The US is full of reproduction stuff for older cars and it's the quality control that makes the parts acceptable not where they are made.
Exactly. These things also depend on the usage. We all know that bimbling around on the bike at around 30mph is very different to hard road or track riding. I like to know the quality of the product Im buying, especially when it comes to brakes, which in the past Ive replaced with EBCs, simply because I totally trust the product
I put a cheap set of chinese wavy discs on my vfr track/road bike and they are holding up very well, no complaints here.
In my hunt for the elusive death crash Chinese disc story I did come across a few people who have said they are using them on race bikes. And I guess there are more being using in Paddocks around the world without death/crash scandals
The quality of the plastic fairings too etc has improved a lot. A friend bought a xerox one and to look at it, its worth every penny of what he payed for it. Which was very little compared to others. Its quite good stuff. Easily good enough for me to consider buying a set too.
I have an import business and am bringing in 1 or 2 x 40` containers of goods from China every month. Not motorcycle parts so I cannot comment on that in particular but I can say that the goods I buy are as good as anything I can get anywhere else in the world in the same product type . They are considerably cheaper too but then they don't have to worry about the same levels of government interference/helpful legislation that we have here in Europe.
