Hi Guys As above, turns out the above items cover box was not ticked so they are not covered on the bike policy. Have any of you ever had success with your home contents accident cover? Long shot i know, but you never know.
If you have annual travel insurance (with a bank account), you might try that, I did and they paid no problems.
A mate of mine claimed for his kit after his Pan European threw him off. He was insured with Tesco and said there was no problem. Suppose it depends who you are insured with?
I claimed after an accident many years ago. There were limits on the amounts I could claim, so I put them in as individual items: Boots Gloves Leathers Helmet Custom paintjob on helmet Irridium visor for helmet All got paid for...but due to the upper payout limit, I was a bit short for the leathers...but it was better than nothing.
i got knocked off my rd 500, going back a bit though, nearly 20 years. claimed for helmet, leathers rucksack, gloves and a few other bits and bats. got paid out in full for all this and the bike which was written off. bought it back off them for about a grand. had it road ready about a month later.
I have claimed for my bike gear off my house contents insurance once before. It was all very straight forward. One problem I had was there was a limit of £500 per item at the time. Fortunately my local motorbike shop happily put my £1200 one piece racing leathers down as a 2 piece suit on the quotation they gave me for replacing the items, so the insurance company didnt query it. Only other problem I had was that the insurance company would only give me a cheque made payable to the motorcycle shop, rather than to me directly. After I explained that my race leathers were an older design and id have to shop around quite a bit to find somewhere selling the exact design, they gave me a cheque for the leathers in my name and a cheque for the rest of my gear in the name of the local motorcycle shop.
A lot of people don't know what exactly is covered by their home insurance. This is one thing, another is your mobile phone. A lot of people pay out each month to phone companies for cover when it's actually included in the home contents cover.
Sorry, bit confused here. Are you saying that after a bike accident, you are claiming for the bike gear on your home insurance? Was the bike accident your fault? Twice I've had to claim against some one else's insurance when kncoked-off and both times there was absolutely no question of all bike gear being replaced by new versions of same or nearest equivalents. Insurers seem to expect that these days.
Yes thats exactly what i am doing. Yes the accident was no one else's fault. Yes someone did not tick the "leathers & helmet cover" box on the insurance form.
OK, gotcha. Just wasn't sure I was grasping exactly what you were asking. TBH, I don't think I've ever seen a "leathers & helmet cover" option on the policies regualrly offered here, and as an option I'd imagine they would be prehibitively expensive and loaded afterward if ever claimed. Must check out my own home insurance and see if similar could be done. Oh, and bad luck for the off
The "leathers & helmet cover" box was on the bike insurance. Do a comparison, some have it at no extra charge and some charge £25- £40 extra. MCE dont charge. I'm with Ducati insurance and prior to this week had never given it another thought as i thought it was automatic not an add on. As the bill to replace everything is over £2000, more than some of my previous bikes, it is worth getting covered. Not all home insurance would cover this either but luckily mine does ( Santander)
Just to let everyone know what their options might be in the future. I have been paid out £1713 via my house insurance, Bac's transfer straight in. Sorted Will still tick the "leathers & helmet cover" box at renewal time though.
We had an un invited visitor, had been with the PRUne ins co for 30 yrs.. Had household valuables out buildings and contents ins with them, lost 5k in snap on tools helmets and leathers... They said the items were not covered on our policy's as they were accesories to my bike and car.. Eventually we got a cheque via the on ombudsman for £1200 odd I think.. Absolute joke... Be aware guys as we had not claimed for anything in nearly 30 years...
