If you are going to do it get the one for the later injected model. It has an adjuster to change the ride-height so you can jack the rear up and quicken the steering a little bit which does improve the ride. Much better than dropping the forks through the yokes and compromising the ground clearance even more. I wouldn't say it was a huge improvement over the stock Showa unit, but I don't ride at race-speeds.
Ive spent a fortune on Maxton for my SS, havent ridden it yet as its still in bits. The IE shock is a different length from the carby. I have Ohlins on the rear of my ST4s, it really is plush. I did quite a bit of research and Maxton, for me, came out tops. Ohlins would still need setting up from new for your weight etc.
Sigh, carby vultures pick bits off the superior i.e. to improve their bikes.....for what its worth, it's still as rock hard as standard, even on soft settings! I am sending mine to Maxton next year to be made more road friendly.
Running one on my Superlight, extended the body and running the correct spring for my weight (Set-up by K-Tech). As standard they are stiff, however serviced and set-up they are a lot better. They are lighter than standard as well for the weight loss spotters (Eat more dust!) :
Lol Rich. Ill be able to give a better review of Maxton later in the year. I would have bought an Ohlins myself but the Maxton was approx £200 less and set up out the box.
have the DU235 fitted, 2nd hand from fleabay, came in the correct box with paperwork, definitely an improvement over the standard showa unit, but it also shows up the front forks too, making them feel crude(r)
I'm considering a Maxton NR4 shock on my lightened track Carby. For some models it gets ride height adjustment but alas not for the 900. However they can make it to specified length, so is the 900ie length optimal or is there any other considered knowledge on this? Thanks
Yeah, I know that thanks The ie shock is (I think) 10mm longer than a carby at 340mm. Maybe 345 or 335 is optimum?- hence the question. I think I saw somewhere the Ohlins was 340 as well..
I put an adjustable length nitron on my 900ss track bike and it was a massive impovement. A factor of it being a better shock, and being set up for my weight and type of riding.... I'd definitely buy nitron again.
Have just fitted DU235 shock to my 92 SS. Comes at length of 328mm extendable up to 340mm. Not ridden it yet, snowing today!! but sag spot on as set from factory. It's pure engineering porn!! Had Ohlins front and rear on Multistrada 1000DS S for couple of years and it was superb!
Bit less than that. Got it from Omnia racing in Italy, £685 all in delivered to UK. They're on ebay, delivered quickly, price can change daily due to exchange rate ups and downs so you sort of have to time it right. Similar spec Nitron R2 is best part of £600 so I took the plunge. Mate has Ohlins on his 95 SS and loves it.
