Hi, Has anyone removed the factory alarm? Is it a simple matter of unplug and remove? Or does it require Ducati to reprogram the ecu? Reason is the alarm is absolutely useless, and I want to fit a datatool evo. Thanks.
I thought that the Ducati alarm system was an afterthought, stand alone, plug and play box. Never come across a factory hard wired alarm on any of the Ducatis I’ve had. Happy to put my hand up if I’m wrong but that’s what I thought. Andy
If it is plug and play there will be circuits that need bridging that were for the immobiliser. These would have been bridged with an OEM connector.
As far as I can tell by looking at the wiring diagrams the factory alarm does nothing more than make a noise if the bike is moved or bumped. It relies on the bike's inbuilt immobiliser to prevent start up. Looks to me like you can just unplug it with no need to do anything else. It won't do any harm to try. If the bike wont run with it unplugged, plug it back in. Be aware though that when you unplug it from the bike it will lose it's permanent supply which might trigger it to make a hell of din until the internal battery runs out.
Thanks guys, I will unplug and see what happens. £250 for a piece of crap that has a mind of its own, I will be glad to be shot of it.
Removed it this afternoon, no drama and the bikes starts / runs ok. E J I prefer lab rat to guinea pig. If anything changes I will let you know.
When you disconnected it did it go off? Mine went off for no reason in the pit garage in Silverstone. Most embarrassing.
Went for a 100 mile ride yesterday evening with my ex colleagues, no problems. When the alarm was removed, ignition off nothing happened. Remove the alarm from the pocket, as there is a clip on the plug that is inaccessible with the alarm in place. Tape over the plug to prevent ingress of water, I am looking on line today to see if a blanking plug is available. Good luck!
Ordered a datatool demon evo for £89 on flea bay M&P motorcycles. Does the same job, a lot more reliable and fits where the Ducati alarm came out of. 2 wires to connect and an led to fit, job done.
Had one on my last bike, an MV Agusta, as the OEM accessory alarm was complete garbage. Very reliable with adjustable vibration sensitivity and basic function as well as being independant of the ignition. Couldn't fault it to be honest. I have the Ducati alarm as well and similar experience, simple alarm system but the benefit of being plugin and play. Any alarm is only a part of a security arsenal, determined professional thieves don't seem to be too bothered by them brazenly lifting a blaring bike into the back of a van. Have been there myself; stood in the street in my boxer shorts in the middle of the night watching four blokes with scaffold poles hoik my P&J into the back of a van complete with locks through each wheel and the alarm going. The alarm only gave the benefit of me being there to witness this event. Had I tried to interfere the scaff poles would have probably been used on me. I have one fitted to deter the opportunist the theif, someone just messing with the bike or luggage or some dozy motorist reversing into my parked bike.
