After messing around and cleaning the bike, I found a couple of bits on the road that could have come from the bike .... I'm sure the rubber is from the Diavel, I noticed these type of rubbers in the slots that the air intake pods locate in. Just to explain, the dealer was the last person to have the tank etc off, when they fitted a new fuel sender unit. Maybe they did not get them all back in correctly. The bike came back in a van. As for the metal, not sure it's off one of the bikes, but, it is an engineered piece and not a random piece of bent metal. It must have purpose, just hope it's not critical to the bike.
The metal side panels have a tang that locates it to the rest of the body work. That rubber bung is what the tang locates into. I'l try and find a picture. Don't recognise the bit of metal. Andy

Hi Andy I agree, I noticed these rubbers when I have the side pods off. I know they all went back on correctly. The bike then went in a van, to the dealer who replaced the fuel sender unit under warranty, and it came back in a van. I then find a Diavel type rubber on the road outside my house. Looks like the dealer may not have got the rubbers all back in correctly. Hope they got everything else back correctly. Do you know if any other parts of the tank cover, body work etc use these rubbers. If it's just the side pods, it should be easy to check if any are missing.
Those rectangular rubber grommets are a PITA. They are on the Panigales as well. It is VERY difficult to locate the plastic (on the Panigale) tabs into the slots without knocking the grommet backwards into its panel. Who ever designed that particular part of the bikes was an idiot and obviously never had to assemble one. The first time I took the panels of my bike, all four of the little buggers were not located correctly. I am guessing that it's the same person who designed the wing mirror mounting (should have shown him how the mirrors attach to something like an RSV4 and said 'copy that'). What were they thinking when they came up with the idea of hiding the connector behind the stay on such nice short wires, and using a connector that has a release tab? I suppose they are better than the bullet connectors that were on my 748R...
Yes they can be but one tip on the Panigale is to spray the rubber with silicone lubricant. No issues at all putting the side fairings on and having the hooked tabs push the grommets through the electrical housing boxes. I do believe Ducati now apply a small amount of adhesive to them to prevent them from moving out of position. Seems so on 2016 onwards models that use this part. Part number for reference is: DU76411411B I have a few for sale as well if anyone is short. http://www.ricambimoto.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=89_126_98&product_id=197
