998 Head Gasket Change.....drop Motor?

  1. I have had a tiny weep of oil for a while and being a bit of an ODC fanny I want to sort it. Can the head gaskets be changed with the motor in the frame, or do I need to drop the lump? It can wait until next winter either way.

  2. Yep. No need to drop the motor. Gets a little fiddly at times, but not difficult

  3. Mind you, when a Ducati Technician says its 'a bit fiddly', you know you are going to have problems.........

  4. It’s fiddly only in terms of tool access. Having the proper tool to get the head nuts off, and torqued back down is about as technical as you need to get. Rear manifold nuts are ‘fiddly’, stuff like that. Stretta engine in the 998 frame is as good as it gets imo for access and ease of working. Everything comes away from the chassis so easily for access, it’s great

  5. Good stuff, I’m going to do the donkey work in terms of getting everything off and then my faithful duke professional will do the rest. Dropping the motor would be far more of a big ball ache.
