1260 Headlight Adjustment

  1. Hello, new member here just bought my 1260S having previously had a Yamaha MT10.
Quick question. According to the owners handbook it is possible to adjust the headlights. Mine are set to high.
The diagram in the handbook isn't very clear. Can anyone point me in the right direction please
    Thank you

  2. Welcome. Why don’t you introduce yourself properly in the newbies section too please?

  3. I think it’s this you need to adjust. 12 or 13mm it looks like but you need to remove some of the plastics. Can’t recall how much. 5696DDDD-73B0-4A97-AEC8-8024CF556C6B.jpeg

  4. IIRC its a 13mm in the centre of the bike , a socket and long extensions will do it without removing anything but easier if you take off the black plastic bit under the headlight assembly. Lots of turns only moved it a small amount.

  5. As Veetwin says, but it is not unheard of for the light to be shining too high even at it's lowest setting. My 1200DVT had been tightening up to the point of stripping the bolt by a previous trying to correct it down. As you tighten the bolt it pulls the beam down. I took my whole assembly off, checked it, and then did what I could to try shimming it to lower the beam. Nope. At night I got constantly flashed and pissed people off. Even with the rear preload set high.

  6. One the other hand at least people notice you ;)

  7. Overtook a car which then followed me for seven miles (traffic was heavy before you start). Car pulled into the Green Wheelie after me and guy jumped out the passenger side going nuts about how I had blinded his missus with my full beam (wasn't on full beam lol). Done his missus a favour if I'm being honest. Kinda realised maybe my headlights could be a bit high as later on that evening every oncoming car was flashing me.
Checked them later and they were way too high - do the dealers not check bugger all before they let a bike out?

That said, they are impressive lights for a bike. Better than some of the cars I've had. You can manage with a 13mm open ended spanner but it's tight. Easier if you have a flat 13mm.
