749 Headlight Unit Removal Track Bike

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by nev749bip, Sep 11, 2014.

  1. Gonna remove the headlight unit on my 749 track bike. Have ordered a subframe but will I also need a new wiring loom. Notice the fuse unit on the headlight unit has fuses for the starter, instrument panel and key switch. Is the fuse unit integral or can it be removed and mounted on race subframe ?

    Anything else to consider ?

    Cheers

  2. Hi - I removed the headlight unit from my 999 for track, but not permanent, as it's mainly a road bike. It's an 05 model, and I assume the 749 is much the same. It's a bit fiddly, but not too much of a problem. I didn't need a new loom. The fuse unit should just unclip from the headlight casing. I zip tied it to the track subframe. In fact, most wires ended up tied to the subframe. Importantly, make sure you carefully remove the air sensor from the headlamp shell, and mount it on the subframe. If it gets damaged, or masked, it would affect performance (or so I'm told). You shouldn't need to split the headlight casing, as everything can be reached via the clock mounting, or from underneath. Hope this helps.

  3. Try this. It's not going to require a new loom either. Save your cash!
