So I bought some stuff to try and heat shield some of my exhaust areas on the bike. I put some on the inside of the very front exhaust sheild (rear cylinder) when starting the bike it basically starting smoking and melting. Anyone had this? It's only on a but where it's super close to the exhaust but having also done the valve cover plate and underside of my seat I'm a little worried!!!
It's designed to stick onto bodywork etc to reflect heat away. The heat shields are getting direct heat from the pipes and it is probably the adhesive smoking.
Yeah that's fair point; do u think I should remove it from the big exhaust valve cover shield now? That's got a decent air gap all over and is further downstream?
Personally, I would. You could try adding some more fibre washers to the fixing screws to add extra insulation.
Thanks for that; I cleaned up the front shield and took the bike out and it seems okay (no melting yet)! I will keep an eye on it and see how we go! I do wonder is carbon would be better or worse as a heat shield? I need to get it to CJS soon for remapping anyway so hopefully it will be ojha
