Hel Brake Lines...paint Flaking From Colored Fittings?

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by tboooe, Jan 17, 2025.

  1. Normally I purchase Spiegler lines but this time I decided to try HEL because of the great things I have heard about the products and they offer a full stealth (all black) option. I just received my brake and clutch lines and right out of the box I see the black paint is flaking off the fitting. Does anyone here have the same experience with the colored fittings from HEL?

  2. Shouldn’t they be anodized? Is that paint as well inside the fitting? I wouldn’t want paint anywhere near DOT fluid. Seriously… :(

  3. Copies ?

  4. You can't anodise steel or stainless steel. And I'm not sure I've ever seen Aluminium brake line fittings.

I think I have some Black Hel lines somewhere so will have a look later and see if I can work out what they are.
I've a feeling mine are Black Chrome.

If painting them you'd surely have to mask off the mating faces.

  5. It would be interesting to know what HEL say about them. Maybe the supplier to them has changed?

  6. Do HEL actually do coloured banjos? I've just had a quick look round their web site & can only find stainless ones.

They do do a 'stealth' black heat sink for the collars.

  8. I have some of the all black ones on my M900, they've been on for about 6 months with no issues.

  9. Did you buy them direct from Hel? If so let them know, their customer service is pretty good.

  10. I’ve they are original I’d say just a rogue set. I’d call them as never had a problem with the customer service levels

  11. Thank you for all the replies guys. I did purchase direct from HEL USA. I just checked the clutch hose and it too is flaking paint, though not as badly. Additionally, when I compare it to my OEM hose, the HEL one is about 2 inches too long. I think I am going to return everthing and go back to Spiegler. I can achieve the same all black stealth look by getting some 4:1 heat shrink tubing and adding it to the lines. Pretty disappointing as I have been waiting 3 weeks for the HEL lines. Oh well. Thank you again gentlemen.

  12. Just to close out this thread, HEL got back to me and offered to redo the bad hoses ASAP and check the other ones which I appreciate. However, I decided to go back to Spiegler who I never had any issues with. Plus I do like how I can rotate the orientation of the fittings as needed.

  13. I remembered I have Black ends on the HEL hose for the rear brake on my 999.

I must admit the Black bit does feel a little too soft when prodded with a thumb nail to be Black Chrome, so could be Paint or Powdercoat.
If it is I'm a little shocked it's not masked off or removed on the mating surfaces.
