Hello all Happy new year. Stumbled across this forum and looks like it has some good advice. In a dilemma with my 748 at the moment... Its burning oil. Im not very mechanically minded so have spoken to a mechanic mate and he reckons it will need an engine rebuild. Having looked at the price of this and the price of a 916 engine on ebay, I am tempted with delving into an upgrade. Obviously with the help of my mate. Is this a disaster waiting to happen? should i just sort my 748 engine? Opinions needed! Mike.
welcome, go bigger I recon , 916, 996 engine, a bit extras always good fun, kev, nice looking bike BTW
Welcome, As for your engine, what sort of mileage has it done? if its not to high it shouldn't need a complete rebuild, could be piston rings or valve stem seals both could course excessive oil consumption and would only require a top end strip, check the compression as this should give some indication as to the problem. A 916 engine swap is a quick and easy job to do IF THE SWING ARM BOLT COMES OUT EASILY. Steve PS It took as long to get the swing arm bolt out on mine as the engine swap took.
