Hi Everyone, I have just bought a 1098, having ridden a variety of s1000rr's for the last 5 years or so. Quite a change I can tell you, not least getting used to the clutch. The s1000rr is a "twist and go" in comparison to the fire breathing dragon that is the 1098. It came with a full termigoni system, magnesium Marchesini wheels and a host of other modifications. I certainly have a lot to learn in both learning how to ride and look after the bike properly. Cheers, SFH.
Welcome, I imagine that's a big shock. 1098's are so analogue compared to the S1k's. How did you find your S1000 ownership?
Hi, The s1k was an awesome bike. Had 3 in total; 2010, 2012 and 2014 models. Really easy to ride and quite comfortable considering I'm over 6'. I found BMW, well at least the dealership I used, very helpful and biker friendly. They would welcome all riders, regardless of what they rode to the showroom. SFH
Yeah that's the thing I've heard, I know there's been some reliability issues with the S1000's but I've heard the dealers bend over backwards! I've considered one myself, a few times. I love my 899 for now though.
Begs the question why did I change bikes? I always wanted a Ducati superbike as they are very special but need experience and to be treated with much respect. Having the s1k's felt a bit like being in an arms race; upgrading to better, faster, more electronics etc. I wanted to go back to riding with skill, not thinking "the abs, traction control etc. will sort this out. The 1098, even though I have only had it a short time so far, is making me think a lot more about my riding, which I like. Cheers, SFH.
And how did you find the Ducati dealer experience compared to BMW Is it red? And hello and welcome to the mad house
The dealer wasn't Ducati, but still very nice and helpful. Hopefully, Ducati dealers will be nice to a Ducati newbie as well.... The bike is red and white. No bike at the moment? That's a shame. Though it is winter and you aren't missing much! Yesterday was very mild and I did a couple of hundred miles, but the roads are filthy again. I think my bike was pissed with me.
Thanks. I nearly got a Multistrada but still hanging on to some vestige of youth and can't quite give up sportbikes yet. Though lets be honest, I'm not going to go any faster or ride any different on a 1098 than I would on a Multistrada.
And make me redfaced with embarrassment! Felt like a complete numpty a few times yesterday as I stalled it at lights and junctions not being used to the clutch. Had to stop myself crawling home and hiding, instead went for a long day out and rode the fire breathing dragon until we got used to each other.
Hey I'm only 31 . My wife has given me permission to buy a secound bike so I will be on the hunt for a sports bike again 848/899
Oops, sorry, didn't mean it to sound like that! More in the sense of not being bendy enough to ride a sport bike as I have got older, not that other bikes are for older riders. What's the weather in Appleby like at the moment? Hope you weren't affected by the floods. Used to live just down the road in the Dales and often passed through Appleby. Cheers, SFH.
