Hello From Sunny South Coast

  1. Hi all, new member from Eastleigh down on the south coast.

After years of badgering from the father in law, I’ve finally seen the light and upgraded from my GSXR1000 to a beautiful Multistrada 1260s 2020. My first love was always the 916 but I never told him that!

Planning quite a few of the normal mods, got lots of questions so this looks a great place to be.

Just planned and booked accommodation for 5 days this summer round Scotland, not great on the slow speed control yet on the Multi so the slow speed hairpins on the Beelach Na Baa (Applecross Pass of The Cattle) will be interesting, all advice greatly appreciated! It’ll be just my luck that it’ll be pouring down as a 7mtr camper van cones round the bend!

Anyway, hi to all, and thanks for the great work done here. Looking forward to many happy years as a Ducati owner/rider.

    Cheers.

  2. Hi Paul. Congrats on the new bike. You’ll be fine on Bealach. If you’ve been living with a gixxer with their steering lock it’ll be a piece of cake on the mutley. Hope you have a great tour.

  3. Thanks Tally, yes I got up and over fine on the Gixxer, I suppose it mostly depends of you get a free run at the hairpins. Gonna try keep the bike light as possible, changing the rear sprocket and fitting the throttle spacer will hopefully help at the lower speed.

Never had a tall twin before so it takes a bit of used to after years on an in-line four sportsbikes! I’m sure we’ll get there!

  4. Welcome to the forum Paul.:)

  5. Welcome

  6. I’ve spent my time on sports bikes with the odd dalliance with nakeds and a tiger 800.
Getting rid of the throttle free play defo helps. If you’re riding up from the south then you’ll be super comfortable throwing it around by the time you get to Scotland :):upyeah::motorcycleduc:
Is a slow riding course your cup of tea? Might be worth a try before you go?

  7. Welcome Paul and hope you enjoy many happy miles on the new bike.

  8. welcome paulbux'

  9. I was always good at the slow hairpins and rubbish at tight bends
I laugh now but my first long ride on back roads to Tintern Abbey from Herefordshire I said if this is riding I'm not doing it again
:D I had a row of traffic behind me as I ventured into the bends gulp
Very stressful and that was coming to biking the hard way :D buy a Ducati as a first bike with no lock
I did get the hang of them eventually

    welcome into our mad house

  10. Thank you all for your kind welcome, it’s such a really nice introduction.

We have family near St Andrews, so the bike will be put in the back of the van and driven up in one day, then I’ll be setting off from there. It’s fantastic having them there to use as a base then heading off to the glorious roads on the west coast, it truly is a visually stunning country. I didn’t realise how beautiful it is until I started going up there after meeting the wife. Just need the weather to be kind now!

I’ve got several months to get the hang of it, I’m sure I’ll be sorted by August. I didn’t even know a slow riding course was a thing, but I’ll be out loads on it in the spring and early summer so sure I’ll be fine.

Just looked up my local Ducati members club in the New Forest, going to tag along there one evening to take a look.

    Thanks again.
