Hello From Texas And A Ducati Newbie...

Discussion in 'Newbies Hangout' started by Bob Dennis, Oct 14, 2015.

  1. My name is Bob Dennis, a lifetime biker and new Ducati Multistrada 1100 owner. I purchased my 2007 Multi a few weeks ago and am getting to know it recently with rides of 1200 and 200 miles recently.

It's a very comfortable bike for long distance rides and will eat up miles quickly at high speed with excellent fuel economy. The bike had 22,500 miles on it when I purchased it from the original owner and is well looked after. I changed the oil and filter last week and my 'service indicator' wrench started blinking on the instrument panel. Is there anyway for me to reset it rather than taking it to a dealer? There isn't any warranty left so I would think it's no big deal to reset it myself but then again I'm new to Ducati's so I'd appreciate some feedback from those more familiar with the brand.

    Best regards,

    Bob DEnnis

  2. Welcome Bob,

I'm sorry I cannot answer your question about resetting the service light with an ounce of knowledge, but I'd have thought you needed a PC with the relevant software or a handheld gadget.

Over here dealer full service history is something people look for in a used machine.

  3. Welcome Dave. I've been to TX many, many times but not near Austin.

Anyway to answer your questions I think it is a dealer thing to reset it, but all it takes is two mins for them to do. Question is how far away is your dealer?

  4. Hawdy y'all. Welcome to the forum. Sorry I can't answer your question, but enjoy your Ducati.

  5. Very good point and duly noted. I have always serviced my own motorcycles and keep detailed records of all work performed. I enjoy doing the work myself and look at this as a simple oil change reminder light which should be made to allow an owner to reset in my opinion. It's a 150 mile return trip to the nearest dealer and not the kind of riding I enjoy. Thanks for your reply.

  6. Thank you, they are very well engineered and the fit and finish is excellent. I'm already considering getting a new one soon!

  10. How do Bob.

I was going to say, "Have you got a gun?" but then I realised it would just be a cheap joke.
Mind you, it's just the sort of joke we specialise in around here.

  11. Well to be truthful I'd have to answer 'yes, several' and I always have one with me on my bike. Check out the pictures closely and you'll see the holsters mounted on the frames. Does that seem odd?

  12. Hello and welcome. I reset mine a while ago, using a tablet, basic software (mx5 I think it was) and a Bluetooth adaptor jobby. @chrisw is the man to seek wisdom from. But either way, a 2 minute job!
