G'day All, from Brisbane, Australia Just got myself my first Ducati and first bike after a long break. It's a '96 900SS with 61,000km that's been well looked after by its two previous owners. As a result of a frame crack at the steering head, it's been stripped, TIG welded and powder coated along with the two wheels by the previous owner. It's been fitted with Ohlins front and rear and came with near-new Michelin Pilots. Also has fully adjustable clip-ons, new clutch plates and slave cylinder. I'm looking forward to knowing more about the bike, just now removing bits and cleaning/polishing/refinishing them. I love the sound it makes, even though it has the standard pipes, but would like to have a bit more presence down the track. Termis would be ideal, but the budget doesn't currently allow such indulgence. I note the standard cans have riveted-on end caps. Is it possible to drill these out and "gut" the mufflers without incurring the wrath of plod and other road users? I've also noted the poor electrics manifesting themselves during starting - I'll replace the standard malnourished cables with heavier gauge shortly. I'm enjoying the forum and look forward to learning more about Ducatis, SSs in particular, as well as their keepers. Regards Rob
Welcome! Good work with the bike, you'll have fun on that Opening out the standard exhausts is likely to end up leaning the fuel-air ration so you may want to go the ECU re-programming or Power Commander routes. **** Whoops. Next time I'll read the post first. My thanks to a friend of mine on here who pointed out my brain fart. The bike in question is of course a carby model and therefore the mixture is controlled through old-fashioned methods - jets, Dynajet kit, etc. I'm forgetting my history! I hate getting old and senior
Welcome to our lovely forum. A great combination of engineers and entertainers. Make sure you get your advice from the Engineers :Banghead: It would also appear that some of our Northern friends are getting ideas about politics:Bag:.
Hi from one of the more grounded and sensible members of this illustrious debating Forum, do watch out for the nutters
I've amended my first post on this thread, as it was rubbish. Thanks, @Chris! :Shy: :Oldman:
Sorry I'm late *she says out of breath* lost my way again Hello and welcome into the mad house I see you have met the locals *crazy wink* I'm the sane one just going to round them up and take them away I love the SS's I miss my 600 I'm saving for a 888 Your bike looks lovely and they are quirky with their little niggles but that's what makes them fun to own Smiles for miles
Hi again and thanks for the welcome. Was just about to remind Loz that the only ECU on the bike is in my head, but I've noted his edited response ;-). While I have your attention, is anyone able to provide urls for parts suppliers who support the carbie'd SSs? It seems that many of the ones I've looked at cater for 2000 and later, or Bevels... Thanks, Rob
