found this interesting, gives all the ratings, dont check some of the Arais out... SHARP Helmets - V-Can V210(B)
https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&r...7FgLAG&usg=AFQjCNEHuSD4SBr7CFBjhX-uCxaCBc4nIw was reading elsewhere a while ago (cant remember where) that the sharp tests are also questionable in that they measure front. rear and side impact results and take an average of those for their rating but a lot of the premium manufactures concentrate on front impact zones as that is where the majority of impacts take place.. does make for interesting reading tho when a £500.00 arai like mine gets a lower rating than a £100.00 shark or something
they show the results for front, back and both sides grauated over 5 grades. Chaser comes out poor for side and not great front either
I've only ever had Arai and crashed plenty of times. Never had any bad effects squeek warbel putang :Wacky:
Very interesting. Now really thinking about a Shark Race-R Pro. Has anyone had any experience of one of these? What I'd want to know is, is it comfortable, quiet and not too prone to misting up?
Hi Glidd I bought a shark race r pro a couple of weeks ago (1/2 price helmet city last years colours). Lids direct were also knocking £200 off this years ones at the shows and when I called them up they would still do that offer over the phone I have only had a 50 mile ride with it so far but here are my thoughts - other helmets in my stable Schuberth SR1 and Arai chaser Visor Particularly good optics , the smoke one to has excellent clarity and they feel thick and strong - best of the three (had two replacement warranty on sch which is only reason I didn't go for another ). I also like the smooth rather than ratchet on shark and the closure is good to and makes a v good seal Field of view - not so good as sch , smaller opening height , not sure if this is going to annoy me , tbh not something I though too much about when trying on Fit - the sch fits me like a glove and its liner has stayed in shape very well over 17k and still looks like new - shark is a little tighter but has nice clear areas around ears so headphones and glasses fit well Build - sch is better built I would say - but it's German - shark is better than arai (I've never really liked the arai the visors rubbish and would fly open if you looked over shoulder at speed with it open) Misting - sch had the pin lock which works - shark has anti mist coating which appeared to work - at a standstill 8 degrees it starts to mist but clears itself Wind noise - shark as good as sch but I wear plugs or noise cancelling buds Internal wind ! Shark exceptional with its close fit at skirts - very impressed Paint - sch is Matt and still looks good with a couple tiny chips - shark not that great close up - mines a mix of matt and gloss I'm lucky enough to be able to try loads of different helmets on as we have a localist helmet city and i tried many - I wanted to try the new bell as I really like the look but they didn't have any on the shelf All are D ring - wouldn't have anything else Shark really has an all encompassing head feel unlike the agv which seem to 'perch' on my head and feel uncomfortable to me
Someone posted an interesting article a short while ago - quite long-winded but outcome was cheaper plastic lids better than stiff carbon ones but I can't find it
I quite like the look of the Shark Race R Pro. Lots of bits sticking out of it to snap off though. Shame it doesn't have Pinlock at that price. If my understanding is correct, the disadvantage of plastic lids is that they degrade over time so their recommended effective life-span is 2 to 3 years instead of 5 with a composite. I like the lightness though.
Who are you going to believe? Top helmet makers who've spent the last 50 years improving their products, or some govt. dept. who are testing only lab-simulated accidents that don't occur very often in the real world?
I have tried loads of Lids over the years and find it very difficult to get one that feels comfortable, have had a couple that I tried on in the shop and felt good but out on the road they have not delivered, to noisy air vents dont work and so on. Find myself going back to Shoei every time. X-Spirit & NXR 4 star rating on the link at the onset of this thread, my X-Spirit II gets 5 star rating. The shoei's have always been an excellent fit for me, the quietest one being the GT Air
I bought my Bell M4R on the basis of the Sharp test (5 star all round) and it is also Snell M2010 and DOT Certified, plus ACU approved......... .........don't think I could have done much better.............. .......even if it was £150......:Jawdrop:
This helmet endured head over heals numerous times along with roly poly hence the scratched visor a few times That's all the damaged done to it on the A49 Tarmac I had no facial or head injuries I would not hesitate to buy another Cost £290 I still have it a can show you what it looks like from side and rear
