Choice of helmets: Do you get the one you actually like, as an object in its own right, including the colour scheme ? Or do you get the one that matches the colour scheme of the bike ?
I’d go with what I like and sod being colour coded, that is unless you’ve painted your bike to match Bagnaia’s and your wearing his leathers then maybe yes, you should buy his helmet too
Colour code. Or you’ll be laughed out of town… Only kidding. By and large I buy what I like. But I’d be lying if I said I didn’t bear in mind the colour of my bike, leathers etc….
Exactly. The only person that will care about colour blending is yourself. And probably your Mrs. Females are somehow hard wired with colour….
Agreed. Unless the they test well. Nolan is a prime example of a manufacturer whose approved test results beat the really expensive lids.
And a good visor lock… I had a fast off at Donington last year. No massive impact on the lid but the gravel rash made it look as if it had been hit all around with a 12 gauge. It’s aesthetically fucked if not structurally. Thankfully the visor stayed locked…. AGV Pista btw…
Few priorities for me, in order:- 1. Fit 2. Safety reviews 3. Weight 4. Field of vision 5. Price Style/look come last. BTW. I’m an X-Lite fan.
I tend to find the model I like then choose a colour scheme of the one I like from there For my track lids, after reading the the reviews its more about noise reduction (Dont like ear plugs), field of view and then comfort as they are usually on for 20-25mins at a time. For road lids, I tend to want an internal visor as had a few issues with dark visors at dusk if caught out/out later than planned early and late summer so I add that into the mix but more about comfort as they are on for allot longer
Thank you all for your contributions. Noted the thing has to fit properly and people have specific requirements for track and touring use. People also have past experiences of being protected by particular brands after a bit of sliding down the road - if you have ever tried a Shark lid they have seriously thick quality visors. Dead right about female contribution to colour coordination - it was comment 1/1 with a previous AGV that I bought - that was the only comment was the colour Anyway, now a sense of freedom, not to be bound by colour choice that matches the bike - a whole new world has opened up ! This has been a great help......
The most I've spent on a helmet was Bell carbon £1,200 & I still mostly wear my cheapest open-face shark evo series3. I don't have buyers remorse though they did 50% off the jobbies a year later. But the older you get the more accurate your needs & likes become I believe.
I have two red bikes, and I just bought a new red/white/black TourX. Purely coincidence though. It was available in a colour scheme I liked so I bought it. It was the deal that clinched it My other Arai is black/white and my last TourX was black/red/silver.
Fit first, comfort second, design last. My head fits AGV much better than most brands, right now I have a AGV sportmodular (carbon fibre) as my primary helmet which is very noisy, but super quite.
As a female I'm watching you lot it doesn't have to be colour co ordinated but safe and fit well if it's a colour I like then bonus I had a Rossi rep AGV, all red Schuberth, Arai in red, white and black with sparkles who doesn't love a bit of sparkle They all fitted differently most comfortable was Arai next schuberth that was like wearing a quilt
Ah sparkle..... I had a nice bass guitar in candy apple red sparkle - very rare colour scheme - sold it a few years ago and miss it now.
I like black too Flatty, however, I believe that a white helmet increases one’s visibility to other road users and is an element to consider for safety reasons. My latest helmet is a white Schuberth.
