1200 Help Needed-"errors Fuel Injection"

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by ibgarrow, Jun 21, 2016.

  1. 2011 Multistrada stopped Sunday. Just cut out, dead. Dash says Errors Fuel Injection.
Now it showed this a couple of times previously when starting up, but the fault cleared itself after switching on and off again. This time I've tried everything easy. Checked the socket/plug for Lambda sensor, air sensor, leads under seat. No joy. At one point, it did clear and start, but then cut out again within seconds.
It would seem to be a wiring/connector/sensor fault, but I don't know which.

    Any ideas?
I've recently fitted a full Termi system with ECU.hope it's not that.

  2. If you PM me I can e-mail you a pdf of the section from the workshop manual dealing with the Engine Control System. The file is too large to upload here.

  3. It SEEMS to have been the Fuel Injection relay on the near side under the cover (number 4 below)
I pulled all three, some were very mildly corroded (surface only) but refitting them has cleared the error and bike starts now!

Whoopee! But leaves that nagging feeling - is that it, or will it recur? Have put on dialectic grease (thanks Exige) to help.

If I'd remembered which relay was which on Sunday, whilst standing in the torrential rain for 2.5 hours awaiting RAC (subcontracted) recovery from 22 miles away, I could have fixed it and been on my way!

    But I didn't.

It's due an annual service, so hopefully a diagnostic dealer check may confirm.

  4. Swap with a less important relay such as No6. That's the fan relay and will only be needed when you reach higher temps and just gives a fan relay error.

  5. Thanks all, but 'twasn't the relay at fault. Just its contact, and if I hadn't been so soaked and distracted, I might have tried undoing that panel and diagnosing the fault. As it was, I wasted some hours of my life waiting for "recovery" and managed to sort it 48 hours o so later (at least I hope I did).

  6. Well, as it turns out, the above post was premature. I am due for a shift with Northumbria Blood Bikes this evening, so I figured I'd better start early to check out my fix. Got as far as the front gate, putting my helmet on whilst it warmed up, and it cut out again! Same fault. Turned it off, waited a minute or so, and it started ok again. I've put it away for tonight and will book it in for diagnostics next week, hopefully I'll be able to ride it in, otherwise it'll go in the back of a van!
Here's hoping it piddles down all next week!

  7. Sorry to drag this post up but just wondered how you resolved this matter after the diagnostics check.

I'm having the same problem on my Multi with an intermittent fuel injection error and cant seem to resolve it.

  8. Cheers chrisw.....................I've changed the relay and hey presto.

Thanks for the heads up..................hopefully should be good.

I've also got an intermittent abs/dtc problem so trying to resolve that now..........good job it's Saturday
