Help Please - Frame slider torque settings

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by LeNoir, Apr 10, 2012.

  1. Can you help me with the torque settings for some T-rex frame sliders, the Ducati shop manual says the Engine Frame mount bolts should be tightened to 60 NM within 5% (approx 44 Ft Lbs) as it is a saftey critical point. The instructions with the frame sliders say to tighten to manufacturers spec but not to exceed 35 Ft Lbs.

I am a novice at these things and I am worried that if I only use the 35 Ft Lbs torque the engine will shake the frame apart or something stupid like that!

    Thanks

  2. Tighten it till it goes slack then back it off a quarter of a turn. I'm no mechanic but you can't go wrong with that.

  3. Personally I think manufacturers quote a torque setting for a purpose, I would stick with what the Ducati manual states....yes 60Nm assuming the T-Rex slders attach to (1)

I would contact T-Rex and ask about this ;-)

  4. I presume that T-Rex frame sliders are like the R&G ones I have fitted in having a solid metal insert to tighten against. If so, use the Ducati settings, You can't really over-compress metal at 44 ft lbs. If for some reason you are tightening against the plastic bung, which will not like over-compression, send them back cos they aren't safe.

  5. Thats great thank you, they have an aluminium insert in the bung so I will tighten up to this.

I have always had R&G stuff before and I bought the T-rex stuff this time as they were highly rated on a different forum. Lesson learnt, I will stick to what I know in future. G.
