1999 900ss engine out of bike to do some refurb of engine and casings suffering from salt damage. I have taken all the bolts out round the offside casing but it will not come off. The gasket is loose as a knife blade goes all the way round. The casing wiggles a bit but will not remove. Am I missing something? There is mention of a dowel in the Haynes manual. Could this be binding? Any tips appreciated.
They tend to stick on the dowel which is at about 8 o'clock, keep the cover straight as you are also pulling it off the end of the crank shaft
That will be it! the clutch assembly and basket will need to come off first assuming you havnt already done so. I do know where your coming from, it looks like the whole cover will slip off over the clutch. Unfortunately life is not that kind. the Clutch is mounted on a shaft that passes through an oil seal on the cover. While your at it replace this seal while the casing is off.
