Help, Please?

  1. Hello. Please forgive me for posting this in multiple forums. I’d originally posted this in the 1199 section but I’m in desperate need of a quick answer now so I’m posting it here too now as I’ve got to head off early tomorrow morning.

Im going to look at/ pick up a bike for a friend on Thursday (note to self: never get a van, and if you must get a van, never answer the phone as people will call you all the time and start conversations with the line “you’ve got a van, haven’t you? Would you mind just...” instead of saying “Hello Nerv, would you like a nice cake or equivalent?”) and I’d like to make sure that the paperwork is as in order as possible.

The bike (1199) only has the CoC, so I’d like to be able to check against what’s on that with what’s on the bike if that’s possible. However, I don’t recall ever seeing an engine number anywhere. Is there something specific that I can check/ cross-reference with the CoC on the engine itself.

@Tracer has suggested it’s easy enough to find on the rear cylinder but I’m afraid I can’t see anything on a friends bike that I looked at this afternoon as a dry run. Do I need to remove loads of trim or fairings to get to the number?

I really don’t want to let him down or mess this up, so anything you could point me towards would be super handy.

Thanks in advance everyone. Sorry for the duplicate thread.

  2. As far as I am aware there is no Engine number on the CofC - the one I have in front of me now just states '1198W4' (from my Bayliss 1098R) where it states 'Engine Type as marked on the engine'

  3. Thanks Ex. I saw that diagram myself earlier but Im buggered if I can actually see that on an actual bike as there’s so much in the way like the exhaust heat shield etc.

Is that right that there’s no engine number on an CoC? If so, how do I tell that the engine that’s in it is the engine that’s supposed to be in it?

After getting massively tucked up on the 899s I don’t trust my own judgement or anyone else anymore.

  4. I think it means it can be seen from both sides? Can't see there being more than one?

  5. I wish I could see anything at all, anywhere. Driving me mad. Can anyone help me please?

Of course, the other question now is, if the CoC has no engine number how do I check it’s the correct engine even if I can find the number? Call the dealer who supplied it and give them the chassis number maybe?

  6. Any dealer can check an Engine and Chassis number combo I think

  7. So, if I gave them the chassis number they could tell me what engine is supposed to be in it?

I’m under my mates bike now trying to find a number. I swear it’s impossible to see anything.

  8. As far as I am aware yes

  9. So is there nothing here then?

  10. Nothing that I can see buddy. What that picture doesn’t show is that the exhaust and exhaust heat shield almost completely obscure that area.

Unless of course I’m looking in the wrong place.

  11. Which I guess I must be, as I can’t see a bloody thing anywhere.

  12. I don't appear to have a Pani to have a look myself  Mmmmm

    Someone surly will know...

  13. Hopefully. I’m really anxious about messing this up, so I’d be really grateful to anyone that could help.

In the meantime, thanks as always Ex, I greatly appreciate your help.

  14. I hope the above finally helps you locate it. I can confirm that an engine number is definitely required by the manufacturer before a C of C will be issued by them.

  15. The CoC already exists and is with the bike chum. I just want to check that the engine that’s in it is the one that’s supposed to be in it.
