Help !!!! Trackday / tuition wanted

Discussion in 'Trackdays & Rider Skills' started by geeunit199, Jan 11, 2014.

  1. hi guys, iv been riding for a couple of years, iv got a 748 and i want to see what its like to ride on a track but i don't want to just go round and round. id like some tuition to improve skills and get faster and maybe even be safer while riding swiftly on the road.
can anybody recommend any companies that offer these experiences?
    thanks in advance

  2. Most of the trackday companies offer this service at trackdays.

alternatively you could book into one of the race schools for some tuition, ron haslam for example. California super bike school is a good one too, loads swear by it. CSS is at silverstone, ron haslam at donnington.

or, if you want to keep your bike nice and shiney contact madasl on here. He rents out track bikes and gives tuition. He's one of the instructors at castle coombe.

  3. Mike exwards v121pro or mike dickenson if you want the best 121 coaching

  4. Do a couple of Trackdays first, you'll find that you will improve without instruction just because your in a safer (ish) environment where you can concentrate on your riding. It's not until you hit your plateau where you don't seem to be improving that I'd think about instruction. As said Spoke Edwards gets rave reviews and is a great guy.

  5. The Proud Home of Odiham Motorcycle Club

These are a great bunch. Nice and safe track days with free tuition by one of the organisers if you ask. 3 groups, novice intermediate and fast.

Ive done 2 with these last year after my mate recommended it. This year Im going to do more. I always used to worry about track days in case a loon had me off. But they're frequented by like minded people and the events are extremely well marshalled. Plus everyone I met there was chatty and helpful. There are no selfish track gods.

Plus you can get close to a Chinook if your lucky.

Oh and the straight is awesome. Plus its cheap.

  6. Better still they are doing a two day event at Rockingham in the summer...how better to learn ;-)

  7. I would suggest a day out with Rapid Training, if they are accessible to you. Their road days are superb and definitely help with making rapid progress.

Alternatively as others have said book with Cali Superbike School. The levels one and two will make a world of difference; forget the issue with going round and round, there is nowhere to compare with riding on a track for learning confidence in ones bike.

Also use your own bike. Places like CSS are very different to a track day in as much as everyone is there to learn, not break lap records. IMHO using a hire bike is not going to let you know what your bike is capable of.

  8. ok so far i think iv decided that i need to use my bike so i can see what its capable of (with me riding it anyway) haha

  9. If Anglesey circuit is,nt a million miles from you , it may be worth keeping tabs on woolseys website for 2014 dates there.
I am sure I heard that its on his calendar this year, however his website is not updated as yet.
    Home

From what I have heard his tuition is excellent , and for the benefit of novices has cones for turn in points etc..

You could drop him a line and find out dates:upyeah:

  10. I can second MADASL, he took me on my first track day and helped make it a fantastic experience. Follows you round on your sessions and gives you pointers when you come back in.

  11. i live in south west wales so couldn't be much further away from anglesey really haha i think il try silverstone, cad well park looks fantastic but too far away for my liking

  12. Best advice I can give you is pop along to pembrey on a phil bevan track day.get a bit of tuition, its free, and if you enjoy, take it up a level,if not it hasn't cost you much in time and expense. I'll be there for a few in the summer may see you.

  13. LLandow is worth a shout too if your in South Wales. Really laid back atmosphere, and very novice friendly, track is super grippy too.

Not the most challenging circuit, but a great environment for a novice. I've been doing trackdays for 10 years now, and I'm going racing this year, but still try to do one a year at LLandow, even if it's just to see if John as any new jokes in his briefing.

  14. +1 llandow good little circuit

  15. My advice would be to go to any track day, and take advantage of the instructors that the company provides... They all offer advice / tuition, but very few take them up on their offer until the last session of the day (that'll be me then !)

Once you have found your feet, then go for some additional training / courses...

My mate (who I shall not name for obvious reasons) was a Ron Haslam instructor; he but always used to recommend CSS...

  16. I had Vic Cox on a Ron Haslam day as the tutor.

    Good introduction to track days.

  17. Agree that there are good and bad; but don't like the idea that RH instruction is all done form the front with a de-brief from the mirrors??

I can't really comment on RH days myself as I've not done them, just comments off my mate who used to work for them, who also used to give me free one to one tuition if I bought him tea ! (and beer...)
    Cheers,

    Bob

  18. Have you looked at Hopp Rider Training. I've heard good reports from a friend. They use Cadwell Full Circuit, and seem to fit what you are after. Don't know if you're anywhere near Cadwell but it's a great circuit to ride as well.
