Gents/Ladies, As previously mentioned I wanted to change the stock clutch and brake levers as I thought they looked 'boring' Anyway, I went ahead and got some Hong Kong ones for £35 (in gold) ... But to be honest, although they looked good when I got them, I'm not really happy with the feel and the quality (you get what you pay for I KNOW!) ...they feel 'flimsy' or 'loose' on the bike.. I've also been reading about the poor quality of metal used on many cheap levers and its got me thinking twice about them! lol Iv'e fitted the clutch lever, but since I'm not really happy with the product, I don't want to change the brake lever and 'waste time' since I want to change them anyway... Now my question is, what do you guys recommend for a decent set?? Willing to pay around £60-£100 for a set...don't mind if they are used either as long as they are in good condition (ideally new) I'm fairly new to biking/ducati so your thoughts would be useful... just one thing...I already know im 'silly' for getting hong kong levers etc and comments as such wont really help me lol...so perhaps if we could focus comments on some genuine helpful advice it would be useful... Thanks in advance!!
what's a realistic budget then mate for something half decent??...doesn't need to be an amazing set i suppose as im just an occasional/casual rider, not some sort of track/boy racer type rider... just something that looks nice, fits and works well...
Check out Busters or M&P as a guideline, they will have cheaper end. Pazzo and rizoma tend to be pricey but anyone who has them says quality is good Tbh chinese stuff is fine for me, had them on loads of bikes and never a problem
Ducati 999 749 1098 848 Accossato Folding Brake & Clutch Levers Lever Set | eBay Or find a UK stockist as that ebay set seems a tad expensive for used items.Ducati Coventry /JHP used to stock them and im sure they were about that price new. Great quality though as a friend has some fitted. The whole brembo radial master cylinders upgrade gets the best result or magura, ap racing etc but with a budget of around £100 that is a non starter and maybe overkill for your needs.
I've put £16.99 Chinese eBay ones on my '94 900ss to be honest they've great, fit well and they're solid have span adjustment and cylinder pin adjustment. No problems!
forgot to say, don't really want a silver set as that was the stock colour... preffered colour is gold (as i have a gold clutch pressure plate set up) Would consider black.... Just trying to get a list together of half decent / reputable makes for levers...so i can search on that basis and buy...
these are the ones ive got mate...feel flimsy to me though and after reading horror stories of poor metal used in them, im a little worried to press hard on them! lol
I have Titax on my 848,they seem to be towards the budget end of the leavers,i paid £50 for a pair on ebay.Ducati Titax levers - UK ROAD AND RACE
what im concerned about is paying 'a little more' but essentially having the same quality levers or even levers simply imported from the same manyfacturers in HK or china and being sold on by UK distributors under thier own guise...not much point in that
They are on my 848 track bike so the front brake gets a fair bit of stick, they seem fit for purpose and the adjusters work well, they do move around a bit more than the lightec ones i have,to be fair they are probably made in Hong Kong anyway. If it is that important to you i would pay the extra for Pazzo/Asv quality always comes at a premium in the bike accessories world.
Put Pazzos on my 999. Very classy, very nice and somewhat expensive. I got a mate in Canada to buy them and send them to me as their P&P costs were ridiculous and they're cheaper in Canada.
Had same chinese on my Evo and can assure you they got plenty of stick and were more than robust enough Dont know what the issue is
thanks guys...will stick with them for a while i suppose and see how i get on/feel about them...will update if i change or encounter problems...
If I crash which I'm not planning to and damage a lever it will be replaced so £16.99 vs £180 I can crash 10x and still have change for a couple of beers. IMHO
