First post so be gentle! I've convinced the other half I need a differnt bike and have desired a Hypermotard SP for months now. Until that is I saw the mv rivale, and was sold! But they don't have a glowing report! Question is then SP or MV???????? I'll post the same question on the mv forum to eliminate any bias) Thanks
Your problem with the MV will be finding a decent dealer close by who can support you when the bike breaks down.
Both dealers are in the same city, and you say when it breaks down!! Currently got a yamaha so don't do breakdowns
You can get those rescue packages from Argos http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produ...5|rnd:6203987602349191192|dvc:c|adp:1o2|bku:1
Ride both and see what you prefer, I think there both similar looking but the ride very differently. Which Hypermotard are you looking at? 1100 or 821?
Sp! both similarly priced, just not convinced on reliability, like the mv as it's abit different though the sp is hardly what you'd call bland.
I don't think the Ducati will give you any problems. I have run them for a couple of years and never had any issues. I can't comment on MV as never owned one. However, when you read the reviews there seems to be little problems here and there that spoil a good bike, I just get the impression that it would be very frustrating to own, gorgeous though.
From a reliability point of view - Ducati has exceeded my expectations....I bought my first one (hypermotard 1100s) a couple of years back and it was fine. My 1100evo has been perfect. As everyone knows on here my main gripe is with the fixings and coatings....if you can get over that - ie, replacing all the fixings with stainless and titanium and also recoating a lot of parts yourself then theyre great. I cant speak for MV as ive never known anyone whose got one. I think ducati are really on a par with the japs now in the reliability and servicing stakes...
I think right now - if I was going to sell my hyper then id go for a dragster above the 821 - I know its going against the grain but I love the styling of it. Like an extreme hypermotard.
I know....but, I do like it...its almost like....ive got my 1100evo, my second one...had a 1100s before. Its almost id be going down a rung, I know the dragster is only an 800 but its a different bike....saying that not sure if I would even then as I like the litre size....I went straight from 250's to 1000's years ago - jumped the mid range completely. Last year I owned (very briefly as it was kinda forced on me) an R6 - absolutely immaculate 59 plate. Ive never owned such an awful bike ever, uncomfortable primarily but closely followed up by an engine that to me was gutless, whiny, and you had to wring the neck out of to make it go anywhere...never again. So, my hate of midrange bikes kinda makes me think an 821 is going back that way....I know its not, ive never ridden an 821 but its just the way I think...bit weird but theyre you go...
Contradicting everything ive just said I am building a ktm 525 supermoto at the moment but its more of a long term project - ive no idea how long its going to take, but, not my primary bike...primary is the evo, secondary is my rsv4...
What's the feedback on reliabilty been on the MV from the MV Forum Diavlo? I know you're considering the 821 but I would suggest looking for an 1100evo that's in the sort of condition that Comfy's is.
Cheers! No ones ever complemented my bike!.....that's the only thing that would make me get an 821 - I cant say for reliability or support....in agreement with moses you could get a well specced sp or evo for less than an 821. I would say for me the dyno work was the best thing I ever did - riding it home from the dyno was like riding someone else's bike home...night and day change...
I'm not a fan of the MV's butch looks and having just died and gone to heaven after spanking my termi'd up 1100 EVO SP back home from work I'm perhaps a bit biased towards Moses' suggestion of the very same!
