Looking to get new tyres and want something that will give me confidence. It seems most tyres are based on track tests which will obviously get them up to race temps but I'm looking for something that I can jump on and feel sticky but will let me brave my lean angles a bit more. Bike currently has Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa but I don't find they give me anything, quite a numb sensation to be honest. I'm really not interested in something that's for track and road as I'm only a road rider. Thanks all P.S. I have a 748
I've recently read a negative report here on Metzeller M7RR but I have found them to work very well at road speeds on my 999. I've had them in place since March, they coped well with cold and wet conditions. I haven't been able to test them at Track Day speeds or in full-on hooligan mode but for fast road riding, they fill me with confidence. Previously, I have used Dunlop SportSmart 2 - excellent tyres that I cannot fault. They are tried, tested and trusted tyres for my occasional track days as well as for the road. Other brands of road tyre are available
I used to work for Cambrian Tyres who are Conti's importer, the Sport Attack is a damn good tyre,I managed to hustle a pair for my 900 Hornet, which I used year round.Rear lasted about 5k if I remember rightly.Good feedback in the wet, which was a good confidence-boost,and it surprised me too!In the dry, really good....there was never any chicken strips on the rear . Sport Attack 2 is better again,as it was tested on Conti's wet track and even better feedback. You should be able to get the Sport Attack for a decent price too. Try not to let people put you off Continental,as they have come on leaps and bounds over the last decade.
Thanks both of you. Problem I seem to find is when you phone places you don't really get educated comments as they just want to sell anything. I only ride on sunny days now ive stopped commuting and I don't do track days so i'm not fussed about longevity of the tyre, just something that when I lean the bike over I don't question it. With the Pirelli's the bike just feels numb, I honestly couldn't tell if its about to let go or not. I know its personal preference and riding style too but to me its clear as day the me and Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa's don't get on. Your comment Jenc about being put off was on the money too, I called my local bike place and previously the bloke said to me he didn't ride bikes he was just a bike mechanic but when I phoned today and enquired on the Continental tyres he told me they were 'sh1t' and that the Pirellis were better. How does he know if he doesn't ride bikes??!?!? Tw4t!
Worked in the bike trade for years, very rare these days do you find a bike shop that's actually interested in what you want. I run Bridgestone BT023s on my Hypermotard, and I love them....nice feedback when you take it into a corner and good in the wet, maybe that's another choice for you,as they were taken over by the T30s,so the BT023s might be a tidy price too
I had bt016's at one time, there was no feedback at all. Convinced my tyre dealer to order me in a set of Dunlop sportsmart 2's. Really good tyre, I'd have been a bit like yourself. I had no confidence leaning into corners but with the Dunlops I maybe have too much confidence now
I looked at the Dunlop Qualifiers aswell but again its trying to find anyone that's used them. I had Bridgestone on my GSXF that I commuted on and never really had an issue with them but to be honest they never set my world alight either hence I wanted to try something that will give me feedback. I'm the same with my cars, I just prefer to feel the road (preferable not on my '4rse though)
Go for the Sport Attacks then, especially if they're a good price. Problem is there's too many tyres out there now,too much choice, and it's an expensive way of finding out which tyre feels the best to you.Good luck!!
I bought some Pirelli Angel GT tyres and have done about 1500 miles on them so far. Only good things to say about them. Plenty of feel and hardly any wear showing so far. They are on my big fat roly poly Moto Guzzi 1200 sport which weighs as much as a small planet but I`m so pleased I`ll fit them to my Duke too when I need new tyres on that. If it helps it may be worth calling service specialists as opposed to tyres stockists for tyre advice as that way you are more likely get an unbiased opinion.
