Hi all. Tomorrow I take delivery of an '08 848. I will be keeping my Daytona 675 for the time being in storage. I've always promised myself a Duke since the Foggy period years ago and when I looked after a mate's 748 briefly. I still look at 916's on eBay now and then but I have bad pre-conceptions about reliability (but oh what a stunner they still are) I've not ridden the 848 and I'm not quite sure what i'm expecting from it compared to my Triumph 675. To be honest my triple 675 is a beautiful bike and kicks other Jap 4 cylinder bikes out the water. I don't think I would ever go back to a 4 cylinder config now. I'm hoping for a bit more torque than i'm curently getting, although I have down geared the Triumph which works beautifully on the track and road. I'm thinking that maybe dropping a front tooth on the 848 may be a possibility, once I've had a chance to see how it performs. Anyone out there advise what speedo corrector is best to get (assuming its electronic)? I have a guy that i've always taken my sports bike to to set up the basic settings ie sag, compression and rebound, and will do the same with the 848 (again probably after riding it a bit to get a feel for how it handles) The bike is on standard cans and i'm not rushing to release the full Termi / Akrapo sound track yet. I've been told that a see thru clutch cover and red clutch is an essential (!) I would be greatful to know if there are any things that I should check once I have the bike e.g. weak spots / recall items etc? Please feel free to bombard me with all suggestions re valuable improvements or things to avoid! Only one slight annoyance pre-bike today, being that I went to update my multi bike policy to change the 675 over to the 848 (leaving my Kwacker Versys winter tool on the policy) only to be told that the insurer wouldn't cover the 848! Had to cancel the whole policy and take up a new one with Carole Nash and pay an extra £50 admin for the privilege because 'they' wouldn't insure it Grrrrr!! Ahhh well - i'm sure it'll be worth it. Cheers Rich
Welcome Rich, Wise choice of bike, you'll love it. No problems with the 848 range, all dukes need a bit more tlc than jap bikes but as a Triumph man you'll be used to that, ie. stay on top of the maintainance. The speedo drive is a rear wheel sensor so won't affected by gearing, a lot of owners prefer to go up on the rear sprocket but that requires a new chain or you could put a link or 2 in. Cheers, Keith.
Hi Rich and welcome to the site, The open clutch is essential, whoever suggested that was clearly a well informed cool dude  Looking forward to seeing your new toy. Pat
Thre were a couple of recalls, regulator and radiator from memory, I had the rad go on my 848 and think previous owner had reg done Get suspension set up, at least the right sag, and everything is good from there!
they are evil and need to be punished .....................................................well mine is ..........
Hi mate, I'm coming from Daytona 675 as well Test rode both 1098 and 848 and for me 848 was far more confidence inspiring than Daytona ever was. I felt like I was sitting more 'in' the bike rather than on it. I found that it's easier to throw the Daytona around but it also means that it may fell a bit twitchy at times. Ducati felt much more stable, like it was on rails. Also Ducati may feel deceptively 'slow' because it's picking up speed with absolutely no effort. At least those were my impressions during the test ride
Yep he did, and that would be fine on a wet clutch set up, but, In Pats comment further down the thread, he said OPEN clutch .... Which may not be so good on a wet clutch set up
Yep, it was my mistake, haven't got used to these new fangled wet clutches yet, don't think they will catch on personally, too quiet
