Hi Guys, I look forward to getting myself a 749 and having some fun......but first i must find 1, Ive been looking for a month or 2 now and have found 2 potential bikes, 1 749 with 7K on the clock and 1 749S with 15k on the clock both with FSH etc...and both a similar price, but what would people go for in here ? Cheers in advance Kris
Hi mate welcome , have a look on ebay one has just been put on 749, 270 miles only dry stored for 10 years , would need new tyres if the are the originals
I am no expert and a recent owner myself,, but I did take a few months to pick the right bike , imo, the S is the one to go for, all things being equal,,, whatever the later ones ( normally 05 on ) are better, with different , " black " rear swing arm, different fairing nose, TIN fork sliders, few other things for a few quid more. there were more than 20 on auto trader when I started looking, now there are 5 !!
It depends on how much you are willing to spend, I bought my 999 3 months ago. I was originally looking for the later black swingarm biposto, all the decent ones I could find were priced between £5500-£5999, I wasn't comfortable spending that much.....then a 2005 reg but 2004 (grey swingarm) model came up on ebay, I put a bid in and got a bargain. 8000mls and been garaged for most of last 5yrs.,and with ohlins suspension, I had to spend money on major service and tyres, but it still only cost £4800 and I'm well chuffed
I'd go with whichever appears to have been better cared for myself. Both look tidy in the photos, but I'd want a closer look, under the fairings etc etc... Full / recent service history would swing it too. Both look good though - tough decision!
That dry stored one would be worth a look. It's a new bike nearly for not much more than a used example
both look good , if you plan to put piles of miles on, I'd go for the 7k one, all things being equal - welcome
excuse me if I am stating the obvious but you may or may not know,,,,,,,,, you will pay more for an S model , but IMO it is worth it,, you get ( over non S ), adj frame, adj steering rake, adj rear sets, uprated engine , tip fork sliders. there are a few available,, one on auto trader up near Manchester , an S with 14k, but it also has full Termi , carbon fr mudguard, bling rear sets and leavers,,and full dealer warranty.. all that is worth a few bob in its own. I was considering it my self but got better cheaper from private buy. I have details about a few which are av if you like to pm me as I don't know if it cosha to reveal too much on open forum .
So do we think its defiantly worth going for an S over a standard one then ?, il be putting a fair few miles on to it what ever thats the only down side......
I'd probably go with the S I think (provided it is an S :Angelic: ). The rear subframe on the ebay bike has a bare metal finish (not black) so may have been converted from a Biposto, and the rear seat cowl is sitting a bit higher than it should. Actually, it says '749 BIP' on the vehicle details tab, so at least they're being honest...
