Hi And New Bike Time!

Discussion in 'Newbies Hangout' started by Leesey, Feb 21, 2020.

  1. Hi all

I’ve been mooching around as a guest for a bit so thought I would sign up.

in January I was knocked off my BMW R1200GS when a van driver didn’t see me and drive into me. (He has admitted liability). I managed to escape with a bit of memory loss due to being knocked unconscious and a broken left wrist so could have been much worse.

I have been told that the bike will be written off and we are waiting for his insurance to inspect it and provide a valuation.

I’m now looking at a Ducati and more of a classic one as I won’t use it everyday like I did the BMW. i am also getting another car so I don’t have to.

What are people’s thoughts on this?

Is it known to the forum and does the price seem reasonable. I’m new to Ducati’s so all help is very much appreciated.

    thanks in advance Jon

  2. Hi & welcome. Good to hear you have recovered from your accident.
Don’t know that particular bike but it is top dollar price. You are in 748r territory there. They are (9** and 748) fabulous bikes to own and ride.

  3. Welcome, yes looks good but pricey - however it is a dealer

  5. Dealer prices, but comes with reassurances for peace of mind that helps some folks in life.
    Welcome aboard.:upyeah:

  6. Welcome Leesey and glad to read you're OK after the accident. It depends what you want it for, to ride or as an investment or a bit of both. As EJ says above, that's pricey but then it is being sold through a Ducati dealer so there is the whole peace of mind thing to consider. You can buy privately for much less than that price, just make sure you buy from a Ducati enthusiast who has fastidiously maintained and looked after their bike, you're in the right place here. The DOCGB is another possible source.

Certainly prices of the 748/916/996/998 range are on the up.

  7. Last taxed in '02 on the pictures? Maybe nostalgia tax disc

  8. it’s being sold by the dealer on behalf of a valued customer. The tax disc is nostalgic, it has a very large stack of paperwork. It will be ridden but on nice days only and will be in the garage being detailed to within an inch of it life. (I detail cars for a hobby) I don’t mind paying good money but want the right bike but that said if I could save a few quid that makes it much better haha.

yeh I’m ok after the accident I’m still sore but will get there.

I’m struggling to find other good 916/996/998’s would prefer something like the s or something a bit rarer if that makes sense.
    Thanks
    Jon

  9. £8500 max IMHO

    EDIT.
This is not a rare or special 996. You need to be into SPS or R, FE or (according to some) Matrix but this will split opinion.

  10. I think @Exige may have something he’s thinking of selling.

The other person to connect with is @Messer who’s presently refurbishing an SPS but what he plans to do with it I don’t know, but he sold the last one he did and he’s very meticulous, check out his threads.

  11. Welcome :):upyeah: that's 998S money which tend to go for +£3K compared to the 996S.
If you didn't know the 998 bikes have the later 999 Testastrata Engines...

  12. Is yours an S?

  13. Welcome Dave

  14. Not really no , it's a base model but with the full 'S' Engine Kit fitted from new (which was available at the time under 1 part number as an upgrade) as there were no 'S' models available)

  15. Not your Wotsits Harry, they’re too small :D, I haven’t forgotten the last paltry offer:astonished:. Anyway, it’s yellow and rare and there aren’t enough Wotsits in the world:)

  16. Greetings!

The prices of these 748 / 916 996 998 bikes vary considerably... Watch them all on eBay for a while and you will see.

    Enjoy...
