  1. Hello folks,

i just sold my vfr1200 after 3 happy years, and I'm currently doing a deal on a 2011 multi, been lurking here for a while, great forum and I'm looking forward to settling in for a few years. If anyone has any tips about buying a used multi (that comes with a years warranty) I would be very grateful!
    cheers,

    rob.

  2. Hi and welcome Rob, nice to have another Norfolk rider on here! Can't help with the Multi as I've not ridden the new ones. Hope to catch up with you at Whitwell some time soon. Chris

  3. Hello and welcome

  4. Can't help either on buying a multi
But here's a warm welcome to the mad house :)

  5. Welcome, glad to see you haven't been put off by some of the less than positive posts of late. Ride, enjoy, smile and remember to bask in the glory of owning a true Italian icon...I do.

  6. Welcome to the forum :upyeah:

  7. Hi Rob,

Welcome to the fun room :)

I've just bought a Multi 1200 ABS 2012 with only 1900 miles on the clock myself. What a dream.
Later i did discover the display have a something that could look like the plastic frame have boubbled up in the top part, but from what i understand, it is only cosmetic. If changed under warranty, your milage will disappear, and then have an issue with the service book to explain, once selling again.

On a test ride, listen for "juddering front brake) - hopefully it should only be something to do with incorrect bleeding or "de-glazing" the pads.
Rear brake can be weak - bleeding might be needed here as well.
Battery in wireless key can go fast - nothing really to do about it, but the display will warn you.
Some bikes had a "kill-switch"-gate, i.e if the switch was left in lower position, it could drain battery.

Other than that, just enjoy it - you might need a bigger helmet to fit the smile!

    Again, welcome to the forum!

  8. Thanks!

Still ironing out the details of the deal, just found out the major service is due in 3500 miles and the dealer never mentioned it, that will be discussed tomorrow! I went to have a look at the bike yesterday, looks like it has been enjoyed judging by the rear tyre, but general condition was pretty good, I don't mind a few marks here and there as I can be a little less precious about it. Hopefully picking up next Thursday, also pleased to find the insurance was considerably cheaper than my vfr!

so here is a little question, which would you go for, a mint 2010 s sport with 3000 miles (and a suspension ecu fault being repaired foc) or a 2011 s touring with 11500 miles in 'used' condition, bikes are the same price?

  9. Hi Rob,

Well, the service issue can be the deal breaker.
Maybe it is worth looking around on for example biketrader to see whats on there at the moment for similar monies?

Are you looking for a specific colour or included panniers etc?

Personally, i'd probably hold back if both tyre and service is getting close - i'd be waiting to dosh out more until the end of season - most likely, there will be things you want to buy (read: bling-bling) for the new toy, when you have got it- but if you know service and tyre is getting very close, then it might actually limit you somehow.
On the other hand, i'd prefer the newer bike, to get some sort of warranty included as well, but still old enough to have taken the worst hit of depreciation value.
On the third hand... (who have that... i've only found the leg so far!?) it might also depend on your local dealer, p/x, finance offers etc from the dealer.

Good luck with the search and negotiation!

  10. I do want luggage, although I'm not bothered if its the oe stuff, and although there are cheaper bikes out there I want to support my local dealer, in the hopes they will support me if (when?) I need it, I also quite like the salesman, but I'm thinking if they won't cover the full service, I would be better off with the 2010 and buying luggage for that!

  11. I think the 2010 sounds the better bet, a new tyre and service is going to set you back @£500 so unless you have that spare then the slightly older bike, with a lot less miles would be my choice! Chris

  12. Deal has been done, dealer has agreed to fit new tyre, and do the full service when it is due later this year for £300, sounds fair to me, collect Thursday!

  13. Sounds good! Look forward to meeting up some time soon. I'm hoping to pick mine up tomorrow, weather and back permitting!
