Just come across this forum, so thought I would join and say hello. Currently looking for a new bike, as currently without. Had 3 x 900 ss previously plus a 916, and lots of Japanese bikes. Bit of a varied target on the shopping list at the moment, but interested to hear about any good 900SS (pre fuel injection), Monster 900 (early one), any super lights, and maybe an S4RS. Peter
Hi Dave, Watch out for the locals, especially @Ducbird as she's as mad as a box of frogs. Our be beloved moderator calls everyone Dave and ...well make up your own mind.
Hello and welcome mate. liking the bikes on your radar.. pre injected ss's rock, had a lovely 900 a few years back and really want another!
Oh look I see you have met the mad locals Hello and welcome to the mad house As said the SS's rock and roll
Did someone say mad locals? The SS is a great bike, but do your homework, there are a few problems which can lead to big bills, but most are fully sorted now. The things to check are cylinder head studs (especially the rear cylinder) there is a starter cable upgrade which is worth doing, and it's nice to have evidence of the crank blanking plug being changed or checked at around 20,000 miles. The flywheel nut can also work lose. It's worth speaking to someone like baines racing for guidance. The rough rule of thumb is the later the model the better from a usability point of view, and a well sorted SS can be a very reliable bike. Don't discount the 750 either, still a cracking bike, but virtually bomb proof
Hi Phil, Thanks for tips. I have had 3 before, 2 x 93, 1 x 94. First was the best combination for me, (black wheels), stage 2 + Baines service and set up, 2nd one popped the studs on the front cylinder. 3rd one was owned only a couple of years ago, but sold it to move to Australia. Hence my long shopping list of options and an empty garage to fill : )
Hi and welcome from over the border in NW Hampshire . Plenty of bikes in your range about, best get in quickly as spring approaches and prices rise.
I must be looking in the wrong places, as I am not really see many bikes available at all. The only superlights are 5k+ which I don't see as value (and a couple have been for sale since last year, so I guess the market agrees with me), a couple of M900's but only one with a tail chop, and a couple of 900SS at dealers miles away from me. There is an S4RS that is probably worth a look at Ducati Wolverhampton. Testing a scrambler for a bit of fun on Saturday, so at least I will get out for a quick blat : )
