Hello everyone, I've just started a strip-down of my 2002 900SS - pics attached. The result of a slow weekend's work... The bike seems to be in good mechanical and OK cosmetic shape, but needs general 'fettling' and correcting of loads of minor issues, such as sorting out the state of the engine casings, reversing the (admittedly fairly minor, but irritating) general deterioration. I feel sure that I'll have many questions, but I'll start a thread in the 'Supersport' forum. See you over there, perhaps. Nick
I'm rather envying that rear suspension. While you have it stripped down, based on my experience, I'd recommend taking a good look inside the tank, and replacing filter and perhaps internal hoses (difficult to get proper submersible stuff though, so be careful not to damage originals) and perhaps pre-emptively clean/seal it with a POR15 kit. I haven't yet done it on mine but refreshing the front suspension (new oil at least, and note that the rebound adjustment at top seems to affect the compression too) and possibly adjusting the riding position are other areas for attention (if anyone has a sure-fire, moderate-cost, easy way to improve the position of the bars, it would be useful to know).
Greetings from a fellow SSie owner. Fantastic bikes, I've had mine four years and still love it to bits.
Yep. Have to agree there. When I was replacing my leaky fuel sender nut recently I found a dead wasp and a big piece of moss inside the tank.
Thanks very much for that. Useful tips. The Haynes manual has made me a bit nervous about working on the suspension, but I'm sure that changing the oil must be pretty straightforward. With the in-tank hoses - aren't they just the same hose as outside? I'd have thought that if the hose is impermeable to petrol from within, it must be so for petrol outside? I did talk to Luigi Moto in Bristol when I was looking, and he warned me to be careful about rust in the tank.
