  1. Hi guys had my hids for a while now had to change the ballest last oct due to down pull of rain and they got wet so went for waterproof ones.

All has been good until now switch ignition on light comes on all good start driving after a few mins it turns of and I have to stop turn ignition of then back on again then light works again then keeps on doing it?? Any ideas new bulbs or ballest again?

  2. Which sets are you using?

  3. Cannot remember they were recommended on here they were from the usa?

  4. Prob just gonna go back to standard a shame really coz I love them so much better, but where you driving down a country lane pitch black and your lights go lol not good.

  5. Might be worth speaking with @Old Jock about this as he's clued up on the hid lighting kit. I think he also got his from the states, but could be wrong.

  6. Yer if I remember I got the link from one of his posts, will msg him

  7. He sent me a word document explaining all in detail but it's on my laptop the kids smashed a few months ago! :(

  8. Lol typical I know that feeling

  9. Try another bulb but I'd say it's the Ballast on its way out

  10. Hi gman I see Bettes tagged me so I got a flag

Are both the HIDs doing this or just one? Are the lights going out repeatedly?

When bulbs reach near end of life they can exhibit this sort of behavior. I wouldn't expect both bulbs to fail at exctly the same time though.

Have you checked the power supply to the relay downstream on the normal loom. Seems strange if both bulbs doing exactly the same thing.

I'm not an expert by any means, lets get that outta the way too

  11. Hey jock thx for replying, well as the other one is the high beam I'm not using it constant but so far I have had no issues with the other one?

  12. Ok then best guess is the bulb if its going out then it cools and can restart then gets too hot and goes out again

Try swapping the bulbs over, see what happens?

  13. Ok jock sounds good to me you know anywhere in the uk to get the bulbs seen a few on eBay any to watch out for?

  14. For the life of me I can't remember where I got spares. I'd probably just use the bay of fleas but one that was a dealer in that line, by checking the shop, making sure they've got a guarantee and they are based in UK

Usually (in my experience anyway) E-Bay tends to side with the buyer, whenever I've had to raise a case its always been resolved in my favor

I'd definitely check it's the bulb first, there is no guarantee the behavior is sort of typical but that's not cast in stone and these bulbs are quite pricey.

I read somewhere that its starts that are the main issue with bulb life not hours and that its not so good to strike/kill/re-strike them as the Ducati's do on starting.

I installed a manual switch so as I could switch the bulbs off, then switch them on once the engine is running. Not that hard but it is, I will admit, a bit of a faff.

Can give you details if you want to do that

  15. Yer sounds good, will swap them over first and go from their :)
