I find the hill assist dangerous as I try to pull away without realising it is on. I stall the bike and have close to dropping it. It's a feature that offers me no benefits as there are no hills where I ride. Is there a way to turn it off through the menu system?
Owner's Manual states that the "Vehicle Hold Control" can be disabled when the user pulls the front brake lever twice in close sequence. Other forums are silent on the topic.
I found the hill assist on my DVT probably the best most useful gadget on the bike if your having issues with it ask the dealer to check it
Hill assist should disengage the second you start to move (you can even switch it off by pushing a foot forward). You don't need to manually switch it off. If yours isn't disengaging, it's not working correctly. Or, are you sure you aren't blaming the electronics for poor clutch control?
I’v come to like it. I’d forgot it was a feature of the new model and came across it by accident. Like you, I was a little apprehensive about it engaging, me not being aware and having clutch issues. But it’s never been a problem and to be fair, I wouldn’t mind the option of turning the 10 Sec limit off.
I like the hill-start feature, since it is helpful under some circumstances (like on hills). If you don't want to use it, simply don't activate it. The 10 second expiry time is obviously too short, and it must be defined in software so ought to be easy to adjust. But when I asked Snells they said there was no way to alter the time lapse. If anyone is aware of any way to do it, would they please let us all know?
That will just be a case of the software engineers picking 10 seconds and never conceiving that it should be a variable field.
I'll ask the 2 dealers I visit when I see them next. But my feeling is it's buried in some code and isn't editable by mere dealership mechanics. Would love to be wrong.
The only problem I've discovered with the Vehicle Hold Control feature is when pushing the bike around with the ignition on. Sometimes I engage it by mistake when using the front brake. After I've tried to work out why I can't push the bike I wait a few seconds for it to disengage. Next time, if I remember, I'll try "pulling the front brake level twice in close sequence".
Possibly he has a tracker fitted that's enabled with ignition off? Have been caught out with this myself.
I meant my post a bit tongue in cheek. I actually find Vehicle Hold Control a usual feature and like others would prefer a lot longer time of operation.
I find that I have to pull the lever in very hard to activate the Hold Control, so hard that I've never engaged it accidentally. Overall, I find it a nice feature, and when I went through San Francisco once I loved it!
OK so it's just me. I have hill start assist on my car and it dis-engages as soon as I start to pull away. It stays on until I pull away or manually turn it off. The Multistrada comes on when I don't expect it and then dis-engages after 10 seconds. My problem is when I'm going slow around a housing estate. I'm on the brakes as I come to a T-junction to slow down, release to coast for a couple of feet then re-apply the brake to come to a stop. When I can see it's clear I try to pull away and turn at the same time (because I'm now stopped at a T-junction). The hill assist is engaged and does not release as I try to pull away. The result is a stall with the bike leaned into the corner. Not a great way to start your day! I'd rather just turn it off (similar to how you can turn of the DQS in the menu). Great for you guys that like it but can I turn it off?
As others have said it should auto disable - like your car.. so if its not working as it should speak to the dealer. I do not have the Multi at the minute.. but thought it deactivated as you let the clutch out... have you changed the levers and perhaps the switch on the clutch is not working as it should?
